ah believe it or not, that repair is not too bad..

You don't need to take the whole front of the motor off to get the the pump

Yep, did that job, not too bad. Save yourself some aggravation, use the new pump to make up a cardboard template for all the bolts. Make re-installation a snap.

Yeah I know, just bad timing and I like to whine!
Recently picked up a 95 Tahoe for a project to tinker on and the water pump issue just adds crap to my list.;)

Good news is, she just got a nice little birthday gift that will keep her occupied until I get her ZR-1 done!

Why is that? I bought Karen a 750i Sport a couple of years ago and we absolutely love the car and have not had a moments trouble.

I agree. I have a 2001 BMW 525i with 226k miles and still going strong!

i've got a friend who is a service writer for bmw. with the over complicated nature of the cars they're producing now, there's no way you'll be able to keep them running after the warranty runs out, according to him.

Went through 3 waterpumps on my wifes 330I back in the day....bad design, weight of the impeller causes bearing failure.......I think newer ones went to electric

If anyone needs the WP tool for the E46 let me know

Same here the DD is a 740I Sport with over 200K on it and I have no issues at all. Just regular maintenance as you would on any car but it has been a great ride.

The WP on the LT5 is not bad at all I used the swap as a chance for my OCD self to clean up the front of the motor, radiator, radiator shroud, steering rack, and other misc. things.

ZR-1's aren't tough to keep running, who told you that!! :p

Haven't feared an automotive system to date, and my guess is this BMW variant won't either. I've had plenty a challenge, but none have broken me yet!:-D

The turbo diesel in this one is new to me, but I figure by the time the warranty runs out, I will have armed myself with some pretty good knowledge of how it works.

Just put the bolts into the corresponding holes of the replacement pump as you pull them one at a time. Once all the bolts are out just put them back into the old pump (now on the ground) and pull them as you bolt up the new pump. To make this repair happen you only need to remove the Air cleaner and the air horn from the front of the TB. Easy repair.

Sorry to hear that! In 9 years, this water pump and a bad injector are the only two things to park her baby. Knock on wood!!!
