I pulled the carpet and old sound deadener. First off there was a original rivet under the factory paint. Now what was really neat was in the in the cargo bucket under the carpet and the insulation there was a brand new 1990 quarter. I wonder what the story is behind that one. I am laying down 1/8" tar mate with aluminum on one side. It is almost exactly like dynamate but a heck of alot cheaper.

Let us know how it works, might be interested in doing this myself.

Just a word of caution about those tar-based rolls from home depot -- on a hot day in the sun, the interior can smell like tar or asphalt.

I have used this on other cars and haven't had any issues with odor? But to be on the safe side I laid down some clear plastic on top of the sound deadener. Now I also sprinkled a little baby powder on the tar surface, to reduce the adhesion just to make it easier to take off in the future. If I need too. I made a huge difference the tire noise was drastically reduced.

Tire noise, you're kidding right! I want to deaden the 140db of enigne and exhaust noise. I have 4 rolls of Dynapad and 2 boxes of Dynamat. I will add pictures when the project gets started.
