Ricky,
It will take good part of a day on the lift to do the gear change.
Arrange the day with Jim and I'll bring the tools and parts.
This will make a great HotB article.

Any relation to the Dr. Phil on CBS? Yes! Auto whisperer. You ain't seen nothing until you've seen Phil perform a thread in the teeth, hold the header bolt while turning with a box wrench! We are talking "dental dexterity!!!".

OK, I am back from vacation and ready to work on some ZR-1's!!!

WMW (Westminster Maintenance Weekend) will be August 20 and 21.
Location: The garage behind my house at 195 W Main St, Westminster MD
Phone if you need directions: 443-244-1347

Here is the plan:

Saturday: install a set of headers. Start time 8:00 AM (come any time)

Sunday: replace a flywheel and then put 3.73:1 gears in a different car.

So the lift will be tied up but there is space available for other jobs.

We will be working on diagnosing over heating problem on one of my cars (Paul, I hope you make it up so we can compare symptoms) and if we get really organized, I may replace the window motor in the driver's door.

Everyone is invited to come hang out and/or supervise and/or turn a wrench.

Pizza for lunch.

Come see the ZR-1 that went from Nova Scotia to Florida this summer.

Rumour is that we will be documenting the gear change so we will need some photographers and videographers.

Day 1 of the Westminster Maintenance Weekend was a great success. We had 7 ZR-1's attend. I got to meet new WAZOO members Rick and his wife Lynn who are original owners of a 1990 ZR-1. We also enjoyed meeting Dave M. from Pennsylvania who has a 1991 ZR-1 that he bought a year ago.

The header install in Yun's 1994 ZR-1 went well. We spent so much time talking and getting to know one another that we took all day to finish the install. Yun now has headers and a stock 1994 exhaust. The car sounds great. A little deeper tone than stock, and louder but still very civilized. Yun was pleased.

Tomorrow, Sunday, 21 Aug, we plan to put a new clutch and flywheel in Dave M's 1991 ZR-1, put new injectors in Rick's 1990 ZR-1 and then change the rear gear ratio on Ricky from NJ's 1994 ZR-1. Then after lunch......just kidding.

If you are in the area please stop by. Call me if you need directions: 443-244-1347.

I think this post will be after the fact, Sundays WMW. Although I live so close & it's killing me not to stop by I just don't think it's going to happen. I ran into "unforseen" problems in wiring the garage today that really set me back, and the electrician is coming first thing Monday morning, I have to get much more done in anticipation of that. What can I say it is the home of '95 #418 and I have so much more to go...

Patti & I talked tonight & decided skip Sunday WMW and do Carlisle (just Sat), we have accommodations for the Setters & we'll find something toward or in Gettysburg (Plan to tour that Sunday) for us. At least I'll have time this week to change oil & charge the AIR.

Anyway, I just got to get more done here. David, lets talk this week so you can fill me in on when/where/how at Carlisle. So, maybe Wed or Thurs evening O.K.?

I knew if I poked my head out too soon I'd just get in trouble...

Jim

Yun is very, very pleased!!!:dancing She triggered "check engine" light a couple of times driving home but the last 30 min. after restart did not tripthe light - perhaps going through a learing process? Running too lean perhaps? I will have a new reprogrammed chip from Marc soon so we will see.
At crusing speed, 50-85 mph in either 5th or 6th, she is as quiet as factory. Dip into throttle and I get deep, pleasant growl. Also, it was interesting that in 5th dipping into throttle I can feel when the secondaries kick-in. In 1th through 5th, response to throttle improved perceptively.
I am dieing to go back to Jim's today but I am grounded for sure today. I better behave today or I can kiss Cralisle good bye!:-({|=
Thanks to all WAZOO gangfor help, parts run and company.

I had a great time both days, wish I could have staed later on Sunday. Jim, David, Phil and I installed a RD Racing cross bar on my car (runs between shoulder belt mounts; reduces body flex). Thank You all!

Ironically, I have an actual lead on my car's ocassional no-start problem. On the way home, I stopped at a Sunoco and filled up. Again no start... plenty of juice. I already solved the VATS issue and replaced the battery. Apparently I have a heat soak issue. I push started the car and it ran fine. At least I now have a direction (and old wiring may also relate to the heavy electrical load with the A/C on). I suspect the wires going from the battery/relay have degraded and when the car is hot, no-start problems. This was really hard to figure out as I don't usually make short trips, or if I do, I am not restarting the car right away. I'll do some more testing...

Wow rough weekend!

Header install Saturday for Yun....

Flywheel / clutch install that took much longer than expected (leaks and issues, but all resolved) Dana 44 (stock 3.45) upgraded to (3.73) for Ricky. Both were sunday and not finished until after 2am!

Lots of other misc items fixed on 3 other cars. I think the rest of WMD's will be scheduled to allow for potential issues.

Jim thanks for hosting! :Eagle:

Great weekend!

A careful inspection of the WAZOO WMD facilities has been completed, everything is OK for the next event.

Hi Dave, I bet the new U-joints made a lot of the noise difference. I wonder if the loose clutch spring clip was the cause of the noise we heard on Saturday evening as you were driving on to the lift?

Glad we could help.

Can't thank Phil & Jim enough, they stuck it out with installing my gears
till 2:30 am! Phil gave Jim and I a great education on ther install. Phil made sure my car was 200% correct for my 3.5hr trip home. I arrived at Jim's at 10.00am Sunday and got home 6:30 am Monday. I will give a informed report on the gear swap after Carlisle, I was to tired to evaluate them on the drive home. I'm very proud to call these guys my freinds.:handshak:
