Has anyone put the later 94-96 seats in their 90-93 car? If so how did you handle the electical hookups and controls?

A few of us have done so... GoldCylon and I have 96 collector's edition seats, the fore/aft controls work just like stock but there's no ability to control the bolsters or lumbar support. I've toyed with the idea of trying to retrofit the 94-96 bolster controls, but it's very low on my list of things to do.

You could take the 94-96 sport seat controls and harnesses and swap that in the car as well. unless you are just doing the 94-96 base, then there is no real issue on the electrical side

Yeah, that would probably work. I like the illuminated seat controls in the 90-91, so I didn't want to lose that. One day I'll sit down with the wiring diagrams and see if I can retain the illuminated controls and splice in the bolster controls in a hidden location such as the center console.

You guys who done the swap know the weight difference between early and later seats :-)

Pete, the later seats are lighter, I think the lack of a plastic backing tray has a lot to do with it.

lbs difference?

Can you feel a difference just from lifting?
I would think if you can feel a difference from lifting should be about 4-5 lbs each seat, what do you think?

I know stock early 1991 seats weigh 45 lbs each w/all electronics and rail.

Having shipped out my original 91 seats, and receiving the box with the 96 seats, I'd say there's probably a 7-8 lb difference per seat, from what I recall. When I shipped out my 91 seats, withOUT the rails/tracks, the box weighed 33 pounds and I seem to recall around 26 pounds for the 96 seats without the rails/tracks. I could definitely feel a difference lifting and maneuvering them in/out of the car.

I like the older seats better than the later, but that's just me. ;)

I had the cloth power sport seats on my 84. They were great and light.

100% stated correct as Andrew stated above

I have the 94+ base seats in mine. They are pretty comfy but not as supportive as the early sport models.
I took them out and weighed them a long time ago but I forget what I came up with. I just remember they were quite shockingly light - I recall thinking that I wasn't going to save any weight by going aftermarket.

^^^ It's because they are really cheap and part of the support beyond the slider track is actually plastic. They are known to break and/or get that loose rocking back and forth kind of wear. But yes, the late sport seats are still the best C4 seats.

the Seat bottoms are virtually the same 84-94 (the hard shell piece)

the 93-older have the hard shell while the 94-96 use a tubular hoop.

Bob, you still have them?
What color? (need black)
They for sale/trade for 1991 seats?

They are black...
They are also still in use... well... they will be again someday when I get the car running again.

Bob,

Maybe you can write Pete a 36month/36000mi. lease.

I put '96 sport seats into my '90. I absolutely love them. As I recall, they were just plug and play for the position controls. I didn't bother with the lumbar controls because I never used them.

Just doing it for the comfort factor, I agree that the original seats are better performance seats. Good to hear it's plug and play for the basic controls. Now I just have to find a decent set of gray seats locally.
