I finally got the Paint code to get the Callaway Aerobody repainted the same color Purple mist pearl. Two of the three people that I would trust to re-paint the car are already using Waterborne paint, Does anyone have any experience with this type of paint compared to two stage base coat clear coat.

yeah the base coat is water borne but the clears are still the same old clears.

There is nothing wrong with waterborne it just has to dry correctly as in evaporate and be dry before the clear coat is applied.

If your trusted painters are using it Id say it is because of state laws.

I have just used waterborne for the first time myself last month and its not bad but if you do not have the little air dryers in the booth it takes forever for it to dry its all about wind and downdraft booths do not cut it for drying. They will have the correct systems if they are using it at the shop.

It is a GM shop that has been using it for the last three or four months to get ahead in the learning curve with the new EPA laws that start January 1st. I am probably going to wait until March or April seeing as how the Car will be put away come October.
I do like Steel blue but I really like the Purple.

If two of the three "I would trust" have waterborne experience presently they'll have several more months maybe even a year or so and they'll certainly be in a better position to advise you!

Waterborne's primary value to larger collision shops is "production"! Yes environmental issues are there but it's very strong selling point to larger shops is "production"! Production is "profit"!

My car is done in Sikkens by an AkzoNobel (parent company) trouble-shooter at the time and he's presently doing in-shop training for technicians using waterborne product. If I were doing another car he'd certainly be the painter of choice and the product choice would be his!!

Another strong sell I understand is "color-match" control of newer production vehicles.
