My condolences to you and your family.
Here is the traditional Irish prayer used by our family for your father.
In Memory of Edward J. Thompson
God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered "come to me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.
RIP Edward J. (Tommy) Thompson

My mother has been ill for the last month, hence the reason I have not been on the forum as much. She just passed away last week at home with family and friends, so I know what you are going through.
Yes we keep a stiff upper lip as we were raised to do, but a part of us will never be the same.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your words hit home and are so true. There is a big hole in my heart and it'll take a long time to heal, if ever. I miss him so much and he was indeed my hero. If I accomplish 1/2 the greatness he did and become 1/2 the man he was I'll be truely blessed.
Thanks again the prayer was spot on!

Bryan, Hadi, and Crossfire thanks for the kind thoughts. I picked up the remains (ashes) and his flag. I'll be machining a custom urn and presenting to my Mom in the near future.
PS: I still miss him badly

Carter sorry for the loss. I will bet the urn will be the greatest part you will
make just from all the heart that go in to it. You need to talk or anything I'm just a
call away or even just down the road if you need to grab a drink just to get of the house or town. Hang in there buddie you'll never forget all the good thing he did for you so he will live on in heart and memory.

John and Russell,
Thanks and yes, Russ, I'll take you up on the offer soon.

Yes I agree with Russ this will be built from the heart and I am sure it will be fantastic.
My Dad wanted his ashes to be spread around. So my Mom kept 1/4 of them and spread them around special places in Illinois and took some south to Marco Island in Florida and did the same down there.
She gave each of us three sons 1/4 each as well with the same instructions.
It was an easy choice for me to decide on since the river and Chain of Lakes I live on were a favorite spot for my parents to come out boating on with their powerboats over the years.
Many times I think of my Dad when I take my boat out for a ride on the river and the lakes. It is a nice way to remember him and the great times we all had over the years on this waterway.
My Dad's real love was for his Sailboat he kept down in Florida at Marco Island right outside the condo called Stevens Landing at the pier dock always ready for an adventure. Here are some pics of his 25' pride and joy named "The Sandpiper" and the Condo.

Maybe when you feel like it you can tell us a bit about your Dad and what his passions were someday. I think it is good therapy to tell about the lives of those who we loved and are our heroes.
