Noticed my clutch master reservoir is down a little, figured I would top it off.
I just got back from a couple auto supplys, a NAPA and a GM dealer.
Auto supplys don't know what I should use, GM dealer says GM fluid (12345347) is discontinued.
Any idea what should be used to top off?
Also any way to test the fluid in the system before I potentially contaminate it?? Not sure what previous owner might have used???
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks, John

DOT 3 or Dot 4 if I recall
I flush my clutch master cyl every year and refill with DOT 3. Appears to work just fine.

To be clear DOT 3 brake fluid
When I got the hydraulic fluid specifically for the the clutch hydraulic from a Chevy dealer I was told the fluid was not hydroscopic-meaning non-brake fluid.
Are we condemned to a substitute?

Looks like summit has it, according to other sites its DOT3 with an addative; I have run DOT 3 with no issues
I think Summit has this in stock

John, not to make work for you.....but you want to keep an eye on the level for awhile just to make sure nothing is leaking.
The slave doesn't telegraph a leak very well via visual inspection. The master does it fairly well. On the master if you look behind the mounting spacer, the side against the firewall, you might see it out lined in fluid sometimes. Also, inside the car up where the push rod comes thru the carpet backing gets wet when the master leaks.
Over at Bill's site there are some useful diagnostic tips on what to look for & where to look also.

Like tom says it will leak down your fire wall if its the master. And if your real unlucky like I was it will squirt on your foot inside the car. But if the slave is leaking inside the bell housing you won't see it right away. It will eventually work its way down to your flywheel inspection plate and then you'll see it leaking out.
