Jim Or John,
Did one or both of you mount a garage door opener to the the side of the door?
I dont have the jack shaft type of garage door, I have the twin springs type of door. I am looking at adding a 4 post lift in a one car garage and wanted to add the opener to the side of the door. Already rasied the door up to clear a car on the top of the lift.
Do you have any photos or tips?
Thanks Bill

Hi Bill,
Yes, I installed a "jack shaft" garage door opener after I installed the four post lift in my garage.
I installed a LiftMaster opener.
I highly recommend this type of opener. Normal residential door openers have a L-bracket to attach to the door. The bracket extends several inches below the door when the door is opened and can contact the top of a car that is on the lift. I speak from experience.
Here are some pics:
Here you can see the bracket on the right-hand door. On the left-hand door, the "extra" door panel has been removed and the bracket is gone:

Here is a picture of the LiftMaster door opener installed:

I installed the LiftMaster opener by myself. It is a straight forward installation.
If you would like to come see the opener, we will be having a Westminster Maintenance Day on Sunday, 19 June.

Jim,
Thanks, I should drive down to do my oil change, my door does not have a jack shaft, so I am left if I want an opener to do it from the side of the door.

I used the same jack shaft opener as Jim. Also had to convert from twin coil springs over to jack shaft type lift arrangement.

Sorry for the delayed response but it looks like you got your answer!
I didn't use the side mount anyways!
