Keeno our 110lb German shepherd died today of liver cancer. I got the call today at work from my frantic wife. He just collapsed on the kitchen floor and that was it. I got him when he was only 12 weeks old. He was already 30 lbs and we knew he was gonna be huge.
When I was working nights for a couple of years my wife would be home alone. Having him in the house made her feel safe. She never worried about someone breaking into the house. Always by her side and slept at the foot of the bed. He was the smartest best dog I've ever owned. I house broke him in three weeks. Amazing. The whole family is upset about it but my wife is taking it especially hard. R.I.P buddy.

Rest in Peace Keeno.
Great pictures rhipsher. Sorry for your loss. I feel for you. We lost our 85 lb lap dog a few years ago. German Shepherds are simply amazing. Not only intelligent but the most loyal, protective, and fearless friend one can imagine.

SO sorry to hear of your loss. I know it's a tough time for you guys - but it sounds like he went fairly quickly, always preferable to a terribly long slow decline in my opinion.

My wife said that he was breathing really heavy and was not responsive. I was hoping that he had passed by the time I got home. I did not want to put a bullet in him to end his suffering. But luckily he passed before I made it home. It was weird seeing him lifeless like that. And I had to burry him in the back yard fast before the kids got home from school and saw him laying there.
Vickie called me today and said the house feels so empty without him there to greet you at the front door. I know its just a matter of time before my kids start bugging me for another dog. When I bought him from the Von Barren bloodline breeder and brought him home my wife was angry with me because she wanted a shitzu, a Lasa or a poodle. I thought the hell with that. I want a real dog. Hahaha! But it didn't take long for them to fall in love him. You could not leave any steaks frozen or otherwise on the counter or as soon as you turned your back he would inhale it plastic wrap and all. He could get anywhere you could. He even was able to reach the spice rack above the kitchen counter. No food was safe from him. He wouldn't do it in front of you. He'd wait until you turned your back. I'd turn around and I'm going WTF? I know I just had a package of 6six frozen pork chopps sitting there and he'd be sitting there looking at me like What? And I could see the plastic wrap hanging out of the corner of his mouth.

I am very sorry for your loss. As you know I lost my pug 2 months ago.
Try to remember the good times, I'm sure your guy lived high in the cotton.
You gave him a great gift.
I have my dogs ashes and many photos, every time I look at his photos I smile, I would give up my vettes to get him back for 11 years.
For me, I ate out a lot and did not hang in my house as much. That helped me to not get really depressed- it might help you too. The first month is the hardest.
Your story about steaks reminded me of my dog. Your dog sounds like a special dog. All dogs are special but some are more special then others.
I am sorry or your sadness and loss.
