Ya know...we really ought to consider following suit with the GN guys and reschedule our BG get togethers for Sept/October...
Anybody have an "eyeball" on Beach Bend? If the Ohio is flooding, the next question is, "what about BB?"
P.
Followed the Buick guy's in B/G since 1987. And I can tell one thing , the weather in B/G this time of year is real rough to put it mildly. The GSCA got tired of the weather in B/G after last years flood at Beechbend and wisely moved it to October. The weather in the fall at B/G is excellent , especially for drag racing. And those folks live to drag race.

I'd like to see us have Vegas in May and BG in Sep... Much better for both!

Sounds good. I'm prolly just jealous of their market value, but I would look forward to grinding out a few passes with the GS guys too. Sept/Oct would be 'bout perfect, methinks. JMO.

May is a bit hit-and-miss with the weather up here - BG in September would be much more dependable.

not sure it is that so simple though. I mean yeah it is the ZR-1 gathering, but it is also a C4 gathering right?
would it be a decision of just the ZR-1 Registry or ALL the Official clubs of the event.
the Buick Club just uses Beach Ben so.. if it was drag racing only that is one thing, but if you are thinking the NCM will move a bigger event you might be in for a tougher fight

I have been to BG the past two years for the C4 gathering  It is really a ZR-1 Gathering, 1 or 2 C4's and a couple of Grand Sports don't make for much of a gathering. Take away the efforts of this registry and see what would happen. JMHO (based on visual facts :p)

Just my two cents, fwiw.
I've only been to the 09 & 10 Gatherings, and I would tend to agree with Rick's observation that our Registry is the bulk of the attendees.
However, Jeff is right in that we do have to sell the idea to the NCM. The link is to their schedule for 2011:
http://www.corvettemuseum.com/calendar/ncm_events_2011.shtml
September is full this year, but October seems to only have two events. Maybe we should decide now if we want to see some one at the NCM to talk about moving our event while we are down at the Gathering this year?

Me either, May is the start of my season so it has been hard for me to go. I did have a great time both times I attended but that was because of the people I got to spend time with. Last year was a blast with the tours and the Jingles drive.
I can't make it this year because of family obligations :-({|=. Hope all have a good time :proud:

We had talked about this before but Sept/Oct can be tough. For example at the NCM:
Anniversary Celebration & Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
(http://www.corvettemuseum.com/registration/celebration/info.shtml)September 1 - 3
NCM Benefit at HOD Thunderhill (http://www.corvettemuseum.com/images/2011_Thill_Promo.pdf)
September 7-8
Z06 Fest (http://www.corvettemuseum.com/registration/Z06/info.shtml)
September 15 - 17
R8C Reunion (http://www.corvettemuseum.com/registration/r8c/info.shtml)
September 25 - 30
NCM Benefit at HOD Autobahn Country Club (http://www.corvettemuseum.com/registration/autobahnCC/info.shtml)
October 3
1-Lap of Kentucky ? Bourbon & Horsepower
October 10 ? 14
then you also have Corvettes at Carlisle the end of August which is a big event for the Registry.
Also
Corvette Funfest (Mid America Show)
2011 - Sept. 16-18th
So it gets a little busy that time of year. Not to mention kids just going back to school, etc.

I'm gonna ask a really stupid question here, so forgive my ignorance...
No doubt the NCM is a fine facility to host the Registry event. But, the question is, (as I put on my flame suit) why do we necessarily have to cow-tow to the schedule or whims of the NCM? Is there a convention center in BG that might work as a facility to hold the seminars and stage the various events? Am I alone here, or do others get the feeling the tail is wagging the dog? I mean really...May is a horrible time to plan anything in KY, due to spring weather - as we well know. I mean, it is a big expense for many of us to make the trip, . And, some have said they won't make the trip again because of the weather.
I'm just sayin...I'll shut up now.

Not a stupid question at all. There has been talk over the years about doing it somewhere else. For example Las Vegas has been trying to build up an event out there for a few years now.
But events take ALOT of effort and time to put together. One reason we do it at the NCM is because they do 90% or more of the work. Also where better to have a Corvette event then at a Corvette Museum plus having the Corvette plant right across the street doesn't hurt. Then add a track nearby as well.
Getting an event started at a new location is tough. Look how big Mid America's first Corvette show was. It takes time and repeated events at the same location year after year to build it up.
I'm not saying we shouldn't hold it somewhere else but you have make sure you have the people and resources to put it all together and then hope that someone shows up. :o

I see what you're saying but part of the draw, for me at least, is to hang out at the ncm and ******** with people i haven't see in a few years. the idea of sitting in a hotel or convention center seems a bit too much like work to me. but that's me, your idea certainly isn't a bad one and I'm interested to hear the discussion on it
Paul,we used to have saminars at the hotels banquet.
But NCM wants there cut,i call them National Corvette Mafia. ;)
What blasphemy i just said.

Since the weather in May in KY usual sucks, and the NCM is a convenient spot for holding the Gathering, wouldn't moving the date of the Gathering to the autumn (October) make a lot of sense? Would the NCM have a big problem with moving the date of this Gathering while still being the venue that hosts this event? Or, try having a spring Gathering and a fall Gathering and see which one has a better turnout and better weather? I have been to 7 Gatherings and 5 of them had crappy weather. KY weather in May is too unpredictable.

I agree with a early Oct. gathering. This time for most would be their last big event until winter storage (you warm weather guys suck)
If the NCM cannot move the date why couldn't we still hold the event somewhere near the NCM.
Maybe even piggyback off another NCM event (small one that would welcome/need some more attendants)
Lets keep throwing ideas out there maybe some will stick

I'm getting the feeling it would be worth asking the NCM to consider an Oct(?) date, next year. (October sounds good for us snow bound members - sounds especially appealing to me, FWIW.) Piggyback or "off site" (from the NCM) - either way. But, as mom points out the event would all be on us, and I'm well aware of the "80/20" rule when it comes to organizing an event.
Well... Something to kick around for next year...while sitting around in the lobby of the NCM...watching the downpour outside...;) Just a thought.
