Amps are typically the Caps, but in some cases the ICs go
Would be great to have the DIY info as I have a second CD play to fix
Although Dr. Don does a great job.

I can do the amps those are easy, I just cant find any info on the head unit. There are lots of places that do it so it cant be awful. I know me and my oscilloscope can do it.

I hear what your saying but doesnt the "Ship it out resource" i.e. "Dr Dons" upgrade the CD unit to play ALL CDs? A repair normally involves replacing the Drive motor, Drive belt and swabbing the laser receiver spot with alcohol.
I would be more interested in seeing how the unit is upgraded. GC

There are three articles on the registry that might help.
http://www.zr1netregistry.com/amp.htm
http://www.zr1netregistry.com/amp2.htm
http://www.zr1netregistry.com/Bose2.pdf
Also one on removing speakers.
http://www.zr1netregistry.com/frontspeaker.htm
I was looking at fixing my own but I managed to pick up a set of amps cheap on ebay so I am hoping I can just install those instead.
Thanks

Okay I'm not an electronics repair person so this is just a testimonial to what kind of guy Dr Don is and how he stands behind what he sells you.
The full boogie repair w/upgrade to mp3's is like $400.00 +/- some cash....memory fails me but that's about what I paid. I get the unit back and it works fine....for about nine months and then the CD starts going crazy again. I kept meaning to pull it out. Then I got around to it like 2 yrs since I got it back. So I call Dr. Don & explain what issue I'm having and give him my RO number and he says just send it along & we'll see what's up. I offer to split the cost or pay something as I'm out of warranty by now. He says " well let's just get me the unit and let me take a look see, okay? I'll let you know if anything comes up before we do anything, okay?" So I agree. About three weeks later my head unit comes back, fixed & no charge. I call him up and thank him and he said the parts went south & have a nice day!
You can't buy this kind of advertizing.

As I understand it the MP3 is a jack on the front of the unit and it takes place of the Tape deck.
the Cd portion is updated for CDRs
anyone know the cost for the MP3 upgrade?

Dr. Don did my 90. When I talked to him he said that there were something like 11 ICs in this unit, whereas later ones have one, maybe two. That's ten times the chance for the thing to crap the bed. He said that typically a repair on the orignial unit will last about a year, then it craps the bed again. Had mine done for almost a year, so we'll see how it works out. He's a quality guy, though and really seems to understnd these things
