View Full Version : Secondary QC check...ran into a problem

I'm in the process of reinstalling the plenum after replacing fuel injectors, coils etc.
I've got everything buttoned up and I'm conducting the final vacuum system QC check as described in Marc's video (grounding of the pin on the ECM to engage the secondary actuators).
So when I turn the key on, I hear the vacuum pump kick in (3 little bursts) then it stops. So I proceed to ground the ECM pin and I can hear the solenoid click, but the vacuum pump doesn't engage. I've gone back through and checked my connections a few times and everything looks fine.
Have I missed something??
Thanks for the help!!!

Tyler,
not to be a wise guy, you checked the fuse? The pump is fairly simple, mine died and I did open heart surgery & brought it back to life. That was 3 yrs ago & it's still going strong. Mine had moisture related corrosion on the motor. I cleansed it up using some WD40 & 1500 wet paper & contact cleaner.
Also, the same pump is used in a truck, a Kodiac 1500 I think, they use it for the brake vacuum assist.

The first thing I checked was the fuse, but I'm never that lucky to have it that easy.
I've got one ordered for a Kodiac 1500 but your idea of ripping it open and cleaning it up is a great idea. Worst case, I will have an extra pump that could come in handy sometime in the future.
thanks for the idea Tom

Im lost here. You state the pump works at the key on,then nothing.Did the pump die while doing the checks or it will come on once and then thats it?Regardless the Kodiac pump is a smokin deal at $116 compared to $300+ from a Corvette vender.

Basically, the vacuum pump was cycling quickly when power was first introduced, but it wouldn't stay on nor would it come on even with the vacuum line disconnected. So after playing with the connectors and lines it wouldn't come on at all. So I thought maybe it was short and started to look at the wiring up to the pump. Has power to the pump and after running a quick jumper to the pump, it wouldn't come on.
After opening up the pump, noticed some heavy corrosion on the connectors and a partially broken wire. So I'll attempt to fix and if it works great, if not I've got a new one on order.

Sounds like you're getting your initiation out of the way early!
Wishing you the best. Soon as you get these minor distractions out of the way, smooth sailin' is ahead!
Welcome to the madness!
