So how much power does a phase II engine make?

You know, I've never even thought about it. hahaha, really.... I have a picture of Geoff Jeal smoking the rears though. LOL

That is cool! Now that has the simplex chains, right? In the HOB book, it says those fail after about 20 hours. I think it also said the Phase I & II's had an issue with blowing oil out of the engine at high revs?

Guess you won't be able to drive that prototype that often, huh? We think parts are hard to find for our production LT5's, just imagine trying to find replacement parts for those prototype engines!

Yes. Gotta baby it. It should last longer than the 20 hr mark but it needs babied. The simplex chains won't take a lot above 4k rpm's. Geoff did update whatever he could, internally.

On the trailer....off the trailer.....repeat.....

I just want it to run when I turn the key. This car is not meant to be a driver. Just something to have and admire. Kinda like a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth.

You should maybe flog it hard once just to see how it runs... hehe...you know I would- couldn't help myself even if i had it in my mind to not do it.

Brett,

THAT is eye candy!! Awesome.

Is the oil filter the period correct one? I can see 970C on it. The reason I ask is because I have a new "old" blue PF970 filter that looks identical to the one on a Phase II engine I used to have, photo below. You can tell the filter is blue under the painted over black.

It's yours if you want it.

Here's a photo of the engine with the painted over, blue PF970. I would think that has to be the correct filter, since it never was a production engine.

Hey Brett, I just thought of this. Which spark plugs did your motor use, FR2LS?

If so and you need a set I still have the ones I took out of my car. They only have 7400 miles on them and they do work. I can bring them to BG if you want them? I would donate them to the cause gratis.

Could you not put the regular chains in it just to be safe? It would be a shame to have the simplex chain fail in it for some odd reason. What was wrong with the simplex chains anyway? I guess I will go get my copy of HOB and find out.

There is no substitute for the simplex chains that were used, unfortunately. As long as the engine is not run to peak RPM's, it should be fine. Fingers crossed.

With the state of current technology and metalergy the simplex chains that Geoff used on our engines are stronger than the duplex chains used in the day. The original simplex chains broke at high RPMs.

I guess these older chains must have been why other manufactures went with belts, like the Ferarri Testarossa etc. Problem with those is you have to keep changing them out. I am glad GM developed chains that last!

This is what the engine looked like in 1998.

Yes the Ferrari belts are to be changed out after 30,000miles or five years. The last set of belts I have seen that came out of an early 90's Testarossa looked brand new. They had 7,000miles on them, and were changed in 2010.
The 1 possible issue I see with chains is the chain guides, but their durability seems quite good according to guys here. I have seen some chain drives that use a sprocket instead of of a friction surface. ANother erason to use good oil and change it regularly.

These engines made similar power to the LT5 380-390hp depending on where the car was to be shipped(different calibration/exhaust).

Cam blanks are readily available for these Ferrari 12's at $100 a piece.

Double the price pf the ZR-1, and they run low 14's in the 1/4, with 0.87g of lateral grip.

I'll take the ZR-1, please.

peace
