From the discussion a couple weeks back, this is the proposal received for the RH upgraded Cam tensioner kit.

An upgrade from the factory to eliminate chain rattle due to oil draining back inside the head and leaving the tensioner dry thus causing chain rattle Since GM have now discontinued this part and there are many engines out there that could benefit from the upgrade, we contacted CT Machining to remanufacture the housing.

There are two kits we'll call them "A" & "B":

"A" will consist of the upper and lower aluminium housing, as well as all hardware screws qty 2, 1 set screw, 2 oil seals and instructions, but will NOT include the actual tensioner plunger. You CAN reset the plunger if you are lucky and have patience. The FSM recommends replacing it, but we believe this more so the reason as it is a SOB to re-set.
"B" will contain everything in kit "A" as well as a new tensioner plunger.

This is the GM kit and what is included in "B"

Kit "A" will the above items less the tensioner as posted below.

Price:

"A" $169.99 + $12.00 Shipping
"B" $299.99 + $12.00 Shipping

I don't need any funds until the item is ready to ship, delivery time frame is 4-6 weeks. Need to pre-sell 15 sets to make it $$$ doable.

To clarify the purpose of this kit - is this intended to reduce timing chain rattle on startup? Is there any other reason to justify the upgrade, other than to reduce the rattle?

No but as your motor gets more miles on it you will appreciate this upgrade. I highly suggest it.

Any news about the tensioner upgrade?

I am seriously interested and wouldn't mind to buy some kits.

Maybe anybody has such a upgrade set for sale?

Keep me informed.

Sam

Hi Kurt, greetings from sunny Spain. This embarassing rattle that starts after a couple of seconds, and lasts about as long, could make some people secretly think my car is not as good as I say it is! I guess I need a "B" kit, please, and I suppose I will have to pay a bit extra for the extra postage. Normally I get things sent by USPS Priority Intl Service, which works perfectly, and if the package is labelled "used motor spares" or something similar, with a value of 40 dlrs or so, it seems to get through customs without a two week hold-up, 5 new forms for me to fill, and an extra 50% on the cost, to pay as taxes and administrative costs! So that would be extremely appreciated, if you could swing it!
Best regards,
Dick
