I had the ZFDOC install a Raptor Dual mode shift light last week. Works great but I wanted to let the community know the "dual mode" light might change your plans for installation. I chose amber BTW. The original plan was to have it installed behind the center vent like so many folks have already have done (Andrew most recently). The problem is once you do that you wont have the option of hitting the mode bottom that switches you inbetween modes or the normal shift mode and the staging mode. You would have to remove the vent in order to do this. The button is almost all the way on the bottom due to the setting dip switches residing in the middle of the shift light
Heres where Andrew installed his but I didnt due to the button. BTW Andrew did a nice clean install on his single mode light

I guess your install plans would still be ok if you chose to ignore this other function so keep this in mind when you purchase one. The single mode version which is about $40 cheaper will work great but it doesnt have the staging mode option. I just placed it next to the left pillar and its not bad. I will post up a pic of that later tonight. Raptor seems to be the WTG since Dom determined a timing issue with the Harlan setup. It is a very small and slick little mod. Just FYI GC

with the dual mode.. what type of switch, push it once and that is it or?
maybe we could 'mod' the light with a wire for a remote switch?

Jeff its a simple push in switch but you have to hit the button twice within a second to shift between the modes. When I get home I will show a pic of the it and my new location so folks can "SEE" what im taking about. I love the lightand I like and the Amber color just makes sense in our cars.

As you can see its small enough to rest next to the A pillar. You can cap it if you dont want to see the light

As you can see in this pic its a small unit the white portion in the center for you to custom set the rpms. A little lower is the back toggle button to shift between modes that I was talking about.

Its a launch mode function or feature. You set the RPMs that you wish to stage your launch and dump the clutch at take off. Instead of minding the RPMs on the tach the light strobes on so you can focus in on the racing strip tree. Thanks Jeff for posting the web site.

GC,
Mine was installed on the A pillar using an rubberized electrical clamp and one of the screws for the A pillar. I can set it so its level with my left eye and as you said you can cap it for regular driving where you can't see it. Altho, I don't normally shift at 7300rpm on the street anyway.
I installed mine on the A-pillar also. I wired mine into the parking lights on the head light switch. When i want it on, turn on the parking lights, otherwise, leave it off.

I hear that. Reminds me of Tccrab's signiture on here
I can break every speed law in the country going into 2nd gear.
There's 4 gears after that.

Direct reading, mechanical oil pressure.

Nothing like being double sure
Nothing like being double sure
With electronic oil pressure senders like the LT5 has, that have been known to fail, I feel more comfortable knowing that there's nothing between the gauge & pressure. What do you do if either one of the oil pressure senders fails & you're on the road when you show 0 psi or the warning light illuminates? Just old school I guess.......
Pillar Pod: Ecklers PN 38220 $28.99
Autometer Oil Pressure Guage: Summit PN ATM-2604 $37.95

jerry did you just t into where the top oil pressure sensor is ?

Correct. To keep the height low, I found a brass tee & a brass "close" (all thread) pipe nipple. Wrap the threads with teflon tape. Use caution when tightening as the teflon tape really makes it easy to overtighten.

I agree... Nothing like being double sure for just those reasons. Had that happen already my sending unit failed. Zero oil pressure is unerving. I shut the car down immediately when it happened. :censored:

Good info, Daryll... I have the Harlan light (bought it a looong time before Dom mentioned the issues with it), so no need to access any controls once it's set up. I guess once I'm done with everything else, and I'm bored, I'll redo it with a Raptor light. I like Jeff's idea of a remote switch, does it look like that's possible with the way it's wired?

Maybe for and electronic guru like Jeff. Im sure a slice could be made in the harness or within the unit. The dual mode is not really needed unless you want that function

Honestly, I think if you run another push switch in parallel it would work.. leaving the OEM one there
Maybe I will get a light one of these days and try it
