It made it 21 years. Not bad. I noticed a little coolant leak starting about the time I went to Coreys for the ZR-1 BBQ but it was no big deal then. But in the last week it got bad. It was pooring out leaving a huge puddle under the car. No more driving it after that. Time to find out where the leaks coming from. Right where I suspected.

Pete Hmm! Maybe I can send him mine and he can rebuild it. Might be cheaper than buying an NOS one.

Ebay auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290508178017&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT for the waterpumpman

I got an email from him but can't find it now. If I remember right, he charges $100 to rebuild yours, that includes a gasket and shipping back to you. You ship it to him at your cost.

Contact him through Ebay.

Corvette Central has new ones for $199 plus shipping.

They are easier to find than they used to be and not as expensive.

Several places offer rebuilt ones, and new onesbut they are very easy to rebuild if you have a rebuild shop in your area they will be able to do it. :)

I exchanged mine for a rebuilt one done by Marc Haibeck. He said he had a line on the "special" seal (I think he said...been a while) which would outlast the cheapo foreign-made ones that "some" re-builders are using. (It better be made of rare earth, as to say it weren't cheap.)

One tip he gave me was to use the new gasket as a template for spotting where to drill holes in a piece of wood to hold the bolts of various lengths around pump. Placing the bolts in their proper location on the board as they are removed from the old pump assured me I wouldn't get the lengths mixed up when reinstalling the new pump.

Boy, I can tell ya how to add about 4 hours to the job in about 2 seconds...:o:redface: I'ts funny now, but not so much at the time! At times like those, I am reminded of an older lady from NY that lived next door to me. We stood together staring at her beat up old Mustang with antifreeze streaming out on the pavement from under the engine bay. Shaking her head in dismay, she said with a resigned sigh (in her heavy NY accent), "I hate "cahs".

Anywayz, it was after dark when I was pulling my old pump. The lighting was poor, not to mention tight quarters down there to begin with. So, with a deep-well 10mm socket on my air ratchet I failed to notice the black cross-beam was lurking about 3/4 inch behind the head of the ratchet. I pressed the trigger - wheeeeeee-"thunk"-GrrrrRRR-hissssssss! Now the head of the air wrench is pressing with - who knows how many pounds of force generated from 65# of torque on the bolt - against the beam! And, guess where the toggle key to reverse the direction of the wrench is???? Uh, huh.:jawdrop: It wouldn't budge. Now with hands on hips and staring at my predicament, nothing to do but shake my head, sigh, and say, "I hate cahs!!!;)
