Earthquake in Japan - tidal wave in Hawaii. I know he was in the process of moving from Hawaii to Japan, not sure whether he moved yet but he's in there somewhere.

I called and talked to Craig last night just after the quake hit Japan. He was in the shower, in Honolulu with his wife, and had no clue of what had just happened.
Next I saw the quake had been upgraded to 8.9 so called him back to tell him but he had gone back to the shower so left a voice mail for him explaining what had happened.
I have received an enmail from him that he sent at 8:12 pm last night but nothing since. Let's all take a minute and have some good thoughts for Craig, his family, and the Z brothers in Japan.
This event will go down in history as one of the most devastating events mother nature has unleashed. :(:(:(

Now, see, that is the type of misunderstanding that gets a person in trouble. I did NOT say anything about his wife in the shower but leave it to you and one other person who'll go nameless, "FU", to try to get me in trouble. [-X

First person I thought of was Craig, I was watching first thing this morning and couldn't beleive the power of the water moving. I heard that the buildings withstood the quake quite well because of the way they were built. Prayers out to everyone effected.

I texted him twice and tried to call him... No answer, but I know he has been VERY busy packing for his trip to Japan coming up.

Hope to hear from him soon.

Hope Craig and his family are OK. Wishing them well!!!

Phenominal photos of the cars being tossed around on the dock and into the harbor. Hope the Z wasn't in one of those containers that washed off the dock.

Very happy to hear Craig and his family avoided that catastrophe... Events like that reminds me of just how insignificant we all are in the grand scheme of things...

Z Brothers,

Thanks so much for your concern and it is greatly appreciated. All is well and I'm still here in a hotel in Waikiki until tomorrow AM flight. I checked the airlines and all is well to be received at Narita airport so that is good as I thought I would have to delay travel. You know it really sucks to be living on the beach in Waikiki like a tourist eating good food on the government's dime.

After Carter called me and monitoring the news international and local I decided to take heed to evacuation from Waikiki since the hotel is not far from the water. We packed everything and went to my parents on the other side of the island overnight. I could not return back to Waikiki the next day until the all clear was given around noon the next day. Thanks Carter for the heads up as we were oblivious to what happened until I got some notices under my door from hotel management a few hours later. We got out of Waikiki before the big exodus even though there was a lot of traffic.

It is strange to be at a place where Tsunami was coming and heading to the place where it came from. Yokohama city where I am moving to was hit by the earthquake pretty hard, but not sure of the damage sustained. Now I am really trying to figure out what to do and where I want to live so new considerations and to protect the Z. My US insurance is dropped and I was referred by USAA to another company there so I will check into the policies and getting some agreed value coverage. You know, you don't think about these type of things and at the time all I could think about is cruising the Z there and having a unique ride with more room to run than this island; especially with the new found power I have now. If the ship sinks it appears my Z is only covered for $21,087.98 which really sucks.

Anyway, thanks to all and especially Dave, Carter and David with your concerns. This is proof that some of your best and caring friends are on the internet.

I'll keep all posted on the situation once I arrive and settle in a bit; especially when the Z arrives to port safely (it better!!!).

Take care and see you folks on the other side as I pack for tomorrow's early flight and catch my last dinner meal in Waikiki then watch the torch lighting and hula dancers in a few hours.

Aloha,

Craig

Prayers for all of Japan now and for Craig & your family. Glad to hear you are well. I know it sounds trite, but things are just things and that even applies to our beloved rides. Our loved ones are irreplaceable. Sending good thoughts and energy for your journey, and best of luck on the car being safe and sound. At sea may have been the best place for it!

I have no doubt that some ZR-1's in Japan are gone. They got flattened over there. I was in the San Francisco bay area in 1989 during the world series when the big one hit and I thought that was big at 7.0 but 8.9 is monsterous. Then that tsunami. Then three nuclear reactors possibly in full meltdown. Thats a 1 2 3 punch. My heart goes out to our Japanese brothers and sisters. It's just horrible.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the concern and blessings. All is well with myself, the wife and the dog. It has been crazy since arriving 3 days after the big one and after effects. It seems we have been having tremors daily and mostly during the night, but there were a few that had me worried during the first couple of days. It seems I am now a little used to it, but not comfortable as we had another one around midnight last night and a few this AM at the office.

I don't know how the Z is doing enroute and will have my folks track that once things settle down and I don't want to ask about it with what we are reacting to right now. The Z is going to be okay and there are thousands of lives that I should be more concerned with. We don't see half of the damage on the US news as you will here locally, but this country will persevere as they always do.

I am finally in a temporary lodging at a Navy housing base so all is well now and I have reliable internet as well as other communication. I am still busy trying to get settled in and finding a home as well as inprocessed to the area going back and forth to the Army installation about an hour plus away. Things are going well with all that has happened an I consider myself very blessed.

Thanks again and take care. More to follow as things get better and more normal.

Aloha from Japan,

Craig

Thanks guys, I appreciate the support. As long as I don't have to take the Potassium Iodide Tablets I was issued I am happy; we are drinking bottled water only now too so I hope the situation gets fixed soon or I will want to evacuate too.

On a good note, the ship with my Z will arrive to dock on Apr 8th, but I can't get it unloaded until the 14th. It was shipped in a container so that is good and hoping no damage. I am worried about not being able to pass emissions testing since that alone costs over $2500 and if you fail, you pay another $2500. Stage I camshafts right now are my worst enemy for emissions so we'll see what happens.

Take care and more to follow..............

Thank Yun. I was supposed to go to Korea (Busan) for 10 days next week, but it was cancelled due to the recent events. I'm in Yokohama area and I really love this city with so much to do and see. Please visit if you are in the area.
