My exhaust and wheel /tire package will be here this weekend and I am not clear on how to get the car safely in the air. The owners manual shows the scissor jack lifting between the markers on the rocker and this won't work with a floor jack I think. If I can get a friend to come help me with the lifting twisting, I want to try to get something done this weekend. 1.) How do I lift the car? 2.) Any advice on installing a B&B cat back. (should I have an exhaust shop do it?) 3.) How do you guys change your wheels? (one at a time, or front then back, car in the air completely.) Thanks for any help!!

Not sure about the exhaust...I never worked on my exh except to look at it but it seems to be a challange as mine seems to be one piece. No experience so I can't give any input that would be of any use, sorry.

The jacking instructions are over at the NetRegistry site in the maint. sec. in the "how to" section. Basically if you have two jacks you pick a side to start on and put one jack at the front markings and rear markings and the two of you jack at same time. I work alone so I start at the front and the back comes up along with it. I go up just enough to get a jack stand under the front frame behind the wheel. Then go to the back and get it just high enough to put a stand in the frame part tha turns in just in front of the rear wheel. The frame at that point has a chennel the stand head fits into. then I go to the other side and repeat. Once it is up on four stands I try to raise it up again to get my working height. I try not to go too far up in any one move so as not to twist the car too much. This is basically what I got from the "how to" section. It is a bit of a pia but I don't think it's a good idea to go as high as you can on one side if you get what I mean.

When I take my wheels off for spring or winter cleaning I just do one side at a time. If I'm gonna do oil, trany fluid and rear fluid and F/F I put it up on all four and do the wheels at the same time.

here's what I do which works pretty well.

I jack up the back of the car using a "jack a vet" which lifts the car by the rear differential.

then I lift using a 2 by 4 under the front engine k frame.

that way the frame isn't twisting. not sure if you can still get these or not.

for lowered cars I use the rhino ramps and back the car onto them to get a bit of clearance.

When I had my wheels balanced, the mechanic (who was experienced with vettes) used 2 floor jacks. He placed one each under the jack points on one side and pumped them up at the same time, lifting both tires off the ground. He also popped the hood, rear hatch and both doors prior to lifting so as not to spring them. When he was finished on one side he repeated on the other. It worked fine. The doors, hood and hatch returned to normal. I think that as long as you lift either side or front and back you will be ok. Avoid lifting corners one at a time, this might twist the car.

I've also used this link. I only have one jack. The first time I took my time and after that it was a piece of cake.

Overkill to pop everything IMHO.

Hey Jeff
I like your mechanic sitting at his bench beside your car.
Union required break time?
Teaching him to work on a ZR1?
:)

Nephew, he had turned 4 at the time. He loves riding in the car.
