We lost another brother today. He was an active member about 4 years ago on the site. His name was Joey Gibson. He passed away today at 4:30p.m at Ben Taub hospital here in Houston. I met him on this site when I first bought my ZR-1. He had a Beautifull black and tan int 91 ZR-1 that he was so proud of but due to being laid off he was forced to sell it. Through the years we became best freinds and I let him drive my ZR-1 anytime he wanted to because I new how bad he missed his and I've never been selfish with my toys. And when I seperated from my wife for a while he took me in and said I could stay as long as I needed to until I got back on my feet. During that time we had a blast. He had a killer pad with an awesome swiming pool with waterfalls ect. BBQ almost every night. Beer and football games every weekend. Chasing women and bringing them back to the house for wet teeshirt contests in the pool:p It was the most fun you could have without being Rock Stars. At the time I was 39 and he was 55. But he was not the type to just sit at home all weekend. He loved to go out and dance and crank up Robin Trower and Deep Purple "Highway star" on his massive stereo in the front living room. We were always going to the lake and jet skiing. There was never a dull moment. My daughters loved him and called him uncle Joey. But eventually I went back to my wife and moved out of his place. Not long after that his health started going down hill. He had bone cancer. Lung cancer and the most aggressive skin cancer there was. There wasnt even time to give him cancer treatment. So his 74 year old father made the decision to take him off the ventilator and soon after his heart stopped. When I came to visit him in the hospital last Sunday I took one look at him and new that he wasnt going to leave this hospital alive. I was having a great day until I got the call that he was gone. I havent cried like that in 25 years. It was very painful because for the first time I had lost somebody close to me. And if it hadnt been for the ZR1registry I would have never met him and I'm so greatfull I did. Anyway thats all I have to say. Good night guys.

No matter how many times we loose someone or something close to us it never gets easier. We may get more numb to it but it NEVER gets easier.
His spirit is free now and he is able to celebrate in a new place. Your memory of him will keep his earthly spirit alive. True friends are few and far between. We are fortunate to have places like this place to find more to add to those cherished few.
Post up a snap or two help the rest of us have a memory of him. He was fortunate to have a friend like you who wasn't afraid of letting others know what he ment to you. Hopefully more of us will be able to have more friends here.

Im going over to his house and getting some great pics of him and his Z. One is the Z parked next to a private jet at the airport a friend of his was the pilot for it and invited him to come out and snap some pics. Another is him standing with his hand on the back bumper in his garage. And one more of him lighting the rear tires up with the top off with a big smile on his face. Once I scan them I'll load them up here.

Cherish the memories of your friend. Every time you light up the tires on your Z, remember him...he's probably looking down, watching you and smiling.
