Any ideas, my full power light blinks on and off at times it stays on other times it doesn't, I'm starting to think I my secondary fuel pump or relay, the switch feels fine but I have not pulled my console to check it.

Any ideas?:USFlag:

sounds like that would be more an issue with the contacts in the switch. Are you losing power when it flashes?

It seems to be leaning out after it blinks for awhile which might be affecting my secondary fuel pump? when the power seems does seem to be less.

The other guys with more experience might have a different take on it, but I would try jumpering the wires outside the switch to see if the light stays on. I would imagine that the switch could fail, and that is where I would start.

Like I said, others may disagree, this is just mho

Yes, it's most likely the switch. Wiggle the key and see if it goes on and off. You may have to turn it back from all the way right to find the "sweet spot".

If that's the problem, it is a simple thing to pull it out and adjust it. The '90 switch is a very basic device, not like the '91+ one.

I just got thru going on a short ride , light stayed on and no power issues, I believe the valet switch could be the issue. Is it a 2 wire switch? to the contactor?

It does blink on and off it if I wiggle the key. Do you pull the console? Thanks everyone.

if you want you could just put in a toggle switch, i did that on a red 90 that i traded in on my 92 . its an easy job just be carefull when removing the upright panel that contains thr switch as there is a phillips screw in the airconditiong duct .

:) Another test. Confirmed, Bad switch.

I would like to keep it original.

Are Valet keys, keyed alike, for those 1990 switches? My keys are like new.

Does anybody have a 1990 model valet switch, they would part with?

It's easy to fix the switch. Take off the center stack, and there's a ring you knock off to remove the switch. Then take the sleeve off the switch and you'll see the contacts. It's super easy to bend the contacts back so the switch functions correctly.

You can also send it to Marc Haibeck, the ZR-1 Specialist and it costs $25 to repair. I have the same problem and if I can't figure it out I'll send mine to Marc.

Had same thing happen on my 90'... I did not want to monkey with repairing myself so I just sent to Marc H and got it back 100%

I had same problem. The contacts bend from switching it on and off.

Bob S. is right easy fix to repair the switch.

Mine is fixed. I took it apart and adjusted the contacts. Easy fix in a 1990 model. Thanks for the thread that directed me that direction.

I also beefed up the shifter boot for a little prevenitive maintenance:dancing

Glad you got it fixed. Honestly, getting the switch out is the hardest part, there's always a chance of snapping some piece of plastic trim.
