Found this comment over in the C3 section of the Corvette Forum...........:rolleyes:
I've seen one actual ZR-1 in my life and ran with it on a track with my LT4. The LT4 beat it. There isn't THAT much of a difference between the 2 in real world performance. They are close enough that the driver makes the difference.
A ZR-1 would be nice to own just for nostalgic reasons but then so is a 69. Personally I'd rather own the 69 but if you really like the C4 styling the ZR-1 is a great car to collect. I'd bet that you would regret it down the road though.

I'd just like to pull up next to him at a stop light and show him the difference, just to 3rd gear would be fine.

The ZR1 didn't have the key on.

 Maybe a new owner? No reason to defend what you know you have, let em talk all they want over there. I love that picture in the thread though, I laugh every time I see it. :)

I had a 96 LT4 before my ZR-1 and there is no Comparison. That guy raced a ZR-1 clone with an LT-1 in it I bet.

No need to get feathers ruffled over it. I worked with a guy one time who said that neil young was the best rocknroll singer that ever walked the planet. Nuff said.

Sorry to do this to you Ryan. But USAFPILOT forgot to turn his full power key on in his black 94 Z when we were drag racing in San Antonio and he ran a 16.79@74mph. That's how much difference there is when its on as opposed to off. Even the announcer said 16.79? What was that? Hahaha!

Thats what I like about my 90 ZR-1. Once the key is on full power it stays on until you turn it off. Of course you can always have the chip programmed to always have it on to.

i remember the first time i took my 92 to the strip ,i didnt realize that everytime you turned the car off that the traction control went back on and the power key went off , well i lost to a mustang gt running 14.60 to his 14.40 .he was giving me a ton of gas over beating me so i asked can we try it again . his time the power key was on and traction control was off . he ran a 14.05 and i ran a 12.78. so when i came around and got behind him in the staging lanes ,i said what happened i thought you said you would beat my car all night long, and i said oh by the way that first race my power key was off and only running on 1/2 the injectors . so do you want to run again . he just turned his back and went to the snack shack .i just grinned :) somrtimes it better to say less . walk tall and have a zr1 in your pocket

Another quote from the same thread..............they really have some sort of issue:blahblah:
"Guys, don't ever say a bad (or even neutral) word about the LT5. Their fans are few, but quite fanatical. You can say it's a decent engine and agree with half of what they say, but they will stop at nothing until you agree that it's the biggest leap forward in engine technology since the chevy small block. It's really not worth it to disagree"

Jesus Brad, your car is storming!
To the original topic. The early C-3's you could get a 350/300 and a 350/350 option for like less than $200.00. Then the LT-1 came & it was 350/370, but the price tag on the option was like $900.00 or so. The 350/350 guys would always say "what!?! Are you nuts!? $700.00 for 20 hp!?!" I think the same applies to an LT5 vs the L98/LT1/LT4 ..... it's not just about the hp numbers, it's how you come by those numbers, what's inside that lump in front that tells the whole story. That's what you're paying all the money for...JMHO.
No matter how hard they poke, I usually never dignify those type of people with a response. I've found it's just a waste of time. Well, it was with my 72 LT-1 and I find it to still be true with my ZR-1. I just let them be and move on.

Check out my man TomTom getting all politcally correct & acting like the Dali Lamma [-X JK haha. I agree with TomTom if they don't understand by now they never will. " Its a Zr-1 thing" as they say. I have found once a person expeirences one they usally come away with a new informed. opinion.

I agree with tomtom. Xlr8inflorida has scrapped it out on cf a few times with no avail. Its useless. I've even read on cf in the c6zo6 section about them minimizing the new ZR1 saying with a few modes they would beat the new ZR1. But yet they forget to mention the superior braking system and superior suspension system ect. And all that smack that comes out of their mouths amounts to nothing more then jealousy. Every car test show that's ever tested the new Z has stated that its miles better than the Zo6 and those guys are professional drivers.

i also agree in theory, but it sometimes is nice to rattle their cages , just to see what falls out:dancing. onr thing we have that they will never have is a vet that has the only motor that was built for 1 car the original great zr1, and our kids will have cars that will one day be worth tons of cash . we get to enjoy them ,they will get to make the money off them ;)

The only problem is what falls out smells,as in bull$hit. These guys havent got a clue. Its always fun when the smart guys start spouting facts about something they know very little about.

i'm sure the big block C3 that i nearly rear ended a few years ago was surprised as hell when I reeled him in like he was standing still. I was behind him at a light leaving the Western Pennsylvania Corvette Club Council cruise and we both made the left hand turn and he jumped on it and so did I...shortly there after I was pulling a chrome bumper out of my radiator.

Amazing how folks glom onto peak hp number and hang their hat on that. Well, one point on the entire power band does not a trend make!
Case it point:
Ami's L46 (350/350) SBC C3 has a mild aftermarket cam in it, and with headers makes about 400 (according to the Crane cam model), and the car has a 4.11 rear gear.
On the Bloomington Gold Tour, we made a left turn ahead of -=Jeff=- following us in his (more or less stock at the time) Z, and I nailed it and rowed it thru the gears! The little C3 seat of the pants felt really strong thru the close-ratio 4-speed and 4.11s - especially in it's power band. But, when when the SBC was "done", I looked up in the rear view mirror, and saw it was FULL of ZR-1 and a BIG GRIN on Jeff's face!
That made quite a testamonial to differences in average RW torque over the engine's rpm range and how over-rated peak hp values can be. As Bob G points out, it is the reason the LT5s hold their own with LS motors that make 20-25 more peak hp.
