View Full Version : ECM # Question

Comprehensive testing by two reliable sources ('Vette shop patronized for almost 10 years and a consultant in automotive scan tools) have indicated that I should replace (or possibly rehab my ECM). I am not ECM literate and have not yet acted on this recommmendation, but the snow's melting and days are warming....
If I choose to replace, how critical is it to match the numbers on my current ECM? (the "Serv. # is 01228331", and the "Part # (bottom line) is 16148441". I have not been able to match the part # on any of the websites I have checked so far, and hesitate to just pick one labeled "ZR-1".
It also appears that sending mine out for analyzing and repair is also somewhat of a crap-shoot. I would appreciate name/contact info. for any source you have found reliable. Thanks.

I'm putting together an ECM test bench and should have the capability in the future, unfortunately I just don't have it up and running yet. The hardware end of things is not that hard, but writing the windows software to exercise the inputs and outputs is going to take a little while.
Sorry, if I could help, I would in a heartbeat.

Jep how are you going to exercise the ECM? I might be able to write the program you need to exercise the ECM

The service ECM is the substitute for previous ECMs but not vice versa. What exactly is happening with the ECM? Any chance you could swap in someone else's?

The only thing I am able to bring to this is a promise that IF I get my ECM back from the west coast any time soon I will lend it to you.
My spare ECM is configured for a 90 ZR-1, but if yours is a later car we can swap EPROM's and put my spare ECM in your car. I have a scanner with software & can bring that along also. The only thing I'm not certain of is what is your model yr because my software stops at 92 or 93....I'll go look at my software pkg & post up.

Kurt, I have the OE ECM from my 90 that needs rebuilding. It sets a DTC 61 which is a secondary vacuum fault. May I ask if I could have mine rebuilt thru you also....please?
I could ship it with a postal money order for the $350.00 + $15.00 shipping in the box.

Sure can, the only ones we can't rebuild are IF the microprocessor is bad, in which case if that is the fault, then it's scrap. However, that aside, i've only had one with this fault. Your ecm will be a walk in the park to fix, send it our way, we'll get it sent back in 2 weeks or less.
You have our address?

Same price, BUT....... only on the net. Regular website price is a lot more than this. I can rebuild the 94-95 easily, 2 week turnaround or less $365.00 inc. shipping.

Tom that was not a dig at you. I do hope you didn't take it that way? I just wanted to explain that if you got your situation squared away that this other brother would be next on line if no one else had a spare to help this brother out.
Is your okay? Did the rebuild effort pan out?

Kurt, you be DA MAN! I'll go get a money order and send it with my ECM. Just give me a shipping addy, and to whom to make the money order out to.
It would be nice to get my OE fixed.

No, no problem at all my friend. I should have used a big grin smiley face. :-D
I will get it out to you asap.
So far so good on the rebuild. It hasn't missed one heartbeat. I sent my ECM to:
SIA-IGNYTE R&R
Attn: Kristi
PO BOX 392
Tilden, Illinois
62292
972-564-4141
Cost me $150 and I received it back in like 5 days all fixed. No problem with it since.

had a mechanic look at it but its been throwing the sys error on the dash as well as service on the DIC and will stall out if not giving it gas. But only after it gets hot. The mechanic ran tests on the computer and said it will work for a short wehile but if you tap on the unit it will start acting up from vibrations and confirmed all connections were clean and secure

Sounds like you pri fuel pump is going bad. Sys on the dash usually because of a bad battery.

Is your mechanic sure the PROM is fully seated and locked? I had a similar issue... dropped the hood closed and the car shut down. Restarted it and no issue. Dropped the hood again and the same thing. Open the access door to the PROM and found one of the bail locks was not locked and the PROM was loose. Reseated and relocked it, no more problem with shutting down.
