C5?

No, they look close, but not C5. the only possible limitation is not having them heated

That tape on your windshield?

I'll bet they vibrate less than the OEM ones?

Truth, they almost look like they belong....almost. The OE ones match the overall wedge of the C4 and yea at first I thought C5 take offs. Not bad though.

The windshield was / is cracked Jeff?

OR...they vibrate so much it cracks the windshield...;)

Well, not my cuppa tea, Jeff. Not really that bad tho, but a bit much - especially on a standard C4. But, truth be known, the view in a Z, with it's wide butt leaves a little to be desired. Something like that might be better than the stock mirrors on the Z? Dunno...

Then again, there is the Italian rule of racing: (from the movie "Gumball Rally") "What's behind me...IS NOT IMPORTANT!"

The OEM mirrors are really small, but they sure look good on the car. Those don't.

This car was being rebuilt after being hit.. bodywork and paint were do at this point. but the cracked windshield and weatherstrip were still needed..

for the Mirrors it is a love/hate thing I guess. I wish the C4 mirrors were a tad larger and think these look better then the Euro breakaways that were used on a C4. granted these are not break away. but look like they work. If these were installed at the factory this way I think the answers might be different

If the door panel wasn't so involved to remove, for $50 I would try a pair on my car. They may not look like they belong, but if they offered a better field of view & no vibrations...I could get used to them. JMHO

Ideally the mirrors should be up on the peaks of the fenders so you see behind & to the side while you look straight ahead.....:o The greenwood stuff I'm not a fan of specially at 1k+!

Mirrors look o.k. but I have a question, The third tail light in the middle of the rear panel, is it an option or custom addition? I have a black 1990 zr-1 and the third brake light is above the rear window glass.

all the regular corvettes got the CHMSL in the tail light panel after 90. All the ZR-1's got the CHMSL on the halo bar till the end of the run in 95. 86? thru 90 standard corvettes all used the halo mounted CHMSL. I think they switched the CHMSL's location on the regular corvettes because they stole our square tail lights in 91. I think they needed some visual aid to distinguish a ZR-1 from a standard vette after 91....since they stole our rear styling.

Jeff,

Sorry, I know we have been talking about this it seems for a few years. I might end up being your guinea pig as you know I need breakaway mirrors for Japan. I have the C5 mirrors from a 99 and looking for a paint shop now so I can get these bolted on. I will do the wiring if time permits. I don't really care for the ones shown, but I think the C5s will look good based on mock up. As you know, opinions are like................

I'll keep you posted.

Jeff,

Having not really driven my Z over the past few years during my "BIG" project of Operation Rebuild, now I really understand why you want to can the mirrors on the C4. IMHO it is a poor design and I don't care much for the look, but more importantly the viewing area and design. Compared to my other cars, I don't like the side view visibility regardless of adjustment. I'm taking my C5 mirrors to the paint shop today for color match. I don't think I will get them back prior to shipping the car, but will keep you posted once I mount them and provide some feedback.

Jeff,

Here is a taste of more to come. I picked up the painted C5 mirrors a few days ago and packing them to ship as much as I would like to hand carry them. As you requested, even though I got a great deal for $35 a pair it cost me $200 to paint them but the shop did a super nice job on them and one needed a little work (minor scrapes) since it was off a totaled C5.

It will be a little while before I meet up with the Z in Japan and get time to bolt on and splice in the wiring to C4 controllers, but I will keep you posted of the results.

You're welcome Jeff. They have 3 mounting studs on them and from my mock up with the gasket, one original hole is okay to use and two will have to be drilled. The other factory hole does not line up for use. Ouch....I hate to drill holes, but I don't have a 10 car and I consider mine more of a driver and a custom Z anyway. I don't care about resale and just enjoying it for my own use.

You're right, I was very fortunate to get these locally for $35 a pair and that is why I did not mind spending on the paint.

I have to agree with the majority on this one, not a fan...but not terrible either. I'd be interested in seeing how the look from inside the car compared to the OE mirrors. If they function well and it's something you like, that's all you need to go for it.
