I just figured it was someone from the forum since it had the throttle plate

Ouch.
Looks like it hit a pole while traveling sideways.
I think it used to belong to a member here, guy that went by the name "Patton", but I could be mistaken.

Too bad he is parting it out. I have seen a similarly damaged car restored. There doesn't appear to be damage to the A or B pillar or the rocker panel.

Can somebody local get the VIN?

Hard to tell in the picture, but looks like the rocker panel is a little tweaked.
Possible frame damage.
Otherwise, a door and a windshield could fix it right up.

Problem with fixing up this car is that with decent models trading hands for 15K-18K, it would be difficult to flip this car and make anything.

A nicer 94 Admiral Blue went for 18.5K a few weeks ago.

I am no expert, but realistically to make this car a nice driver someone is looking at spending 10k+. (I more than know about all the add-on, while you were in there costs) More if there are other issues pre-accident. Then you will have 20k-25k into a car that is possibly carrying a salvage title that you could move for 15k-18K.

Obviously if you are a paint and body man you might have considerably less however the end result is the same.

The car as a whole isn't worth much right now, but the parts are...

Frames are repaired correctly every day. Too bad he wants so much for the car.

Look at it this way. The total bill on getting my 88 put back together in one piece is only $5k.

Putting this white Z back together wouldn't cost any more than my car, IMO.

BTW, I just bought two doors. One could be used in fixinig this car.

Are you saying that if someone buys this car and sends it to you, you could put it back to factory specs with parts, labor, paint, supplies, etc. for 5K or less?

OR...are you saying your labor on your own car is $0.00

Yes, I'm saying that I could do this for less than $5k with my own labor. Now, would I do the job for that little? NO. I'm just saying that it's just not that difficult.

The insurance has paid on this claim, the owner has bought it back and knows its worth more in parts than sold outright. On a bright note, hes a hardcore ZR-1 owner and is in the market for another car.

I'd agree that if a person knew anything about body work and did any of the work himself, he should be able to fix it for under $5000 (side hits are normally easier than front impacts). I'd be more concerned about damage to the dash structure than the door pillar. I'd also agree that it would probably only sell for $15k-$18k (probably on the low side) repaired. On the other hand, even if you part cars out for a living, parting is a long and messy job. The paradox is is, since the value of C4's are dropping, people are not rebuilding cars such as this, (and, they are not driving them much) which lessens the demand for the major parts, which lessens the value of those parts, eventually.

Well I can get you a dash its not really that hard to get parts for these.

The car as a whole isn't worth much right now, but the parts are...I agree with Dennis. Just because its a ZR-1 its not worth loosing your azz on plus its a salvage title car. About 5 years ago I saw a wrecked 2004 ferarri 360 spider for sale that had been hit in the drivers side front which looked totally fixable. It had 10k miles and they were asking $40k for it. At the time I had the means to aqire it. Fix it up and sell it or just keep it. But I don't know anything about them or the price of the parts so I passed.

well the more that get parted, the more yours should be worth in the long run I would think. Besides, it is another parts bin for those who need to keep theirs on the road. Sometimes cars going the way of the buffalo is not a bad thing.

I wanted to say that too. Makes my car worth more twofold. Less cars, more parts.

When it comes right down to it, you are absolutely correct. Hate to see them go but you're right, a new parts bin.
