When I purchased EX5023 from Geoff, he gave me a lot of documentation. One such piece is a Project Status Report, dated Jan 1988. I have attached a copy of the index for review. This is quite a piece of LT5 history. One day, I might copy it. It's really interesting reading.

Wow, that is very interesting that the best BSFC is at 2,000 RPM, not the lower RPMs the car cruises at. Wouldn't that suggest a 4.10 car would get better cruising economy (though reality says otherwise)?
Also, they spelled "Program" wrong... :D

Started reading in depth and found some really interesting data. Engine development for each of the first 75 or so engines. Also a few sheets that show which vehicles were matched up with car PY numbers. Here are a few more pictures. Also data for failures and component failures as well. Even the report on the very first Phase1 engine produced.
THIS IS VERY COOL STUFF

Neat stuff.
It appears that the P8Y028 to P8Y046 are narrow bodied prototypes.
The only LT5 from the list of Engine numbers I have a hit for is LT5-018:
From AutoCheck:
UK Registration: D142FPW
Make/Model: Chevrolet Corvette
Color: Gold
Imported: 10/16/1986
Engine Number: LT5018
Seen here:

Read HOTB pages 86 and 87. It talks about a test drive to Sweden.

Would that car be the one that Keith Beschi has the remains of? He owns the yellow 86 with the Phase1 engine.

Keith has the car that originally had LT5013.

A quick cross reference shows that:
Keiths Car:
D131FPW
Was P8Y044 used for Lotus Emissions
White car in HOTB page 86/87
D137FPW
Was P8Y030 used for MPG Transmission
D138FPW
Was P8Y038 used for CPC ETC
All three of these are 86 narrow bodies.

According to your import dates these had to be 1986 cars. Keiths car is a collection of those 3 cars and a donar car, where is Ed Simmons when we need him. They were pretty smashed up.

They started producing 87s in August of 1986 so they could be 1987MY. My bet is the VIN numbers are all relatively low. Eric

Very interesting stuff, especially the data on the very first LT5 ever!
I hope you will post all the pages from that book soon!

The Status Report is about 2in thick, so I probably won't get around to doing that. LOL. I'll just keep it with my car, since it's one of the only prototypes to survive.

I may end up putting it on disc someday. I spoke with Jim Minneker at length at the McDorman auction a couple of weeks ago and I changed my perspective on some things. He's a very cool ZR1 guy. He has more knowledge than probably anyone on these cars and should get credit for his contributions to the program.

Gordon K pulled the build sheets for those cars some years ago and said they were normal production MY 86 cars sent to England as mules with no ZR-1 parts.

Yes and Keiths website:
http://www.eurovettes.com/zr1_story.htm
Refers to it as an 86 as well.
Looks like P8Y044 made it into the museum check the yellow car in the live feed:

Being that several ZR1 brothers have inquired about the information, I am considering either making copies or having it put on disc. I struggled with keeping the information from the group and feel that it needs to be seen and appreciated.
The information contains data on the early development of the LT5 from its inception to Jan 88. It's very good information for the guy that appreciates the history of the marque.
If I do this, the cost would be $50.00 shipped. I can also take orders and deliver to the Gathering in May at $45.00.

Hi Brett, In the event that you do decide to make this info on the history of our motors available I would like to reserve a copy. Since I'm coming to our gathering I would bring cash & pick it up from you at BG. Is that okay?
Sorry if I'm being out of line. I just thought the info would be a nice addition to my pizza box.
