Installed a new Bill Boudreau Transmission and shifter today....
Unbelievable! I installed a new Fidanza Flywheel and no rattle either!
Bill said that I can quote a "new" ZF6 built to your year ZR-1 (give him the year and he wll give you the right transmission) for $2900.
This includes Bill's magic (ballanced and blueprinted) on the transmission and the his shifter.
Call him with questions. Bill is a busy man, be patient and you will get an UNBELIEVABLE transmission!

So how much to ship him yours as a core, right?
I've always dreamed of getting one of his for my car....if for nothing else to eliminate that bothersome oil starvation issue to 6th & reverse.
I hope you enjoy your new toys Dave!

Yeah, does that mean that's the cost for him to do the work on your existing trans? Or the cost of a new/worked over transmission?

No core. Just order your new trans with everything, including the shifter! (all new).
Times change... Ask Frank how much it was to get his transmissions "done" 7 to 10 years ago ($4,000 plus) and that is for parts to redo a transmission.
$2,900 for a NEW ZF6 transmission built for your car (just tell him what year ZR-1 you have).

FYI.
If you need to get your original ZF done, if you have an original with low miles and no blown syncro's....
Bill said you can get it done for $775.
Reason I wanted to get my transmission done is I wanted to add a Fidanza lightweight flywheel and didn't want the "chatter" that comes with it. With Bill's transmission, you don't get any extra noise!

Ok ok Franky... :notworthy I did say in an earlier post and have stated many times that your car drives SOOO well! And yes Ricky does own me on the open road.
Damn! I was owned!

Frank,
Hey take it easy on bro David. After all his Z is an AB and therfore we all know it has alot of catching up to do when it comes to power. You should of seen the DM flywheel that came out of his car on Sunday. You could hardly find any signs that it had anything to do with transmitting excessive power.

i will call him and get him to post a little , i have 2 of his trannys in my cars. when i go to the strip i never worry about hittting 5th gear when going for 3rd. the way he setts them up you can just about no way get to 5th gear. the detents the way he sets them up make shifting a thing of beauty.

You are killing me!!! Glad it worked out for you bubba. My aluminum flywheels make more noise than my resonance. The '91 is not too bad, but the '94 makes one hell of a racket! I need to get in touch with Bill and make a trip down to WAZOO land.....
We all kid around with Dave and the ole blue tortoise , in good fun.

Last Sunday David and I swapped cars on the drive out to the Chip Miller charity event so I could check out his new transmission. I always felt the ZF S6-40 was one of the better shifting transmissions around however Bill Boudreau's work certainly takes it a step further compared to stock. David's transmission shifted much smoother and firmer with no hint of slop or lost motion while rowing through the gears. Now that David is running an aluminum flywheel I was also impressed with how quiet it was at idle while in neutral with the clutch out. Not the box of rocks sound many expirience. I also liked the feel of Bill's shortened throw length stock shifter. The throws seemed shorter than the Hurst I currently have in mine with the about the same shifting effort required. The rubber isolated shaft of the stock shifter also does a good job of eliminating most of the vibration you feel up through the solid shaft Hurst shifter. This experience sealed the deal for me. Come this spring one of Bill's units will be behind the 402 when it hits the road.
On a further note, its a well known fact certain AB's Zs are long on looks but a little short on "you know what". However, standby boys and girls, if all goes according to plan this pretty tortoise will be soon busting out of its shell!

Hey Phil, thanks for posting your impression, especially as you also have a fairly quiet single-mass flywheel.
It sounds like Bill does a great job. I guess what I can't quite get past is it takes a bang-for-the-buck mod like the Fidanza and turns it into quite a pricey operation. $300 for the equivalent of 15whp in the lower gears is great. $1000 + shipping a trans twice, plus the downtime while your trans is getting done, not quite as great.
Still, nice to know it's an option and that it really makes the Fidanza livable.

Scott,
You don't have to worry, if you're not aware of what you are short on by now chances are you are okay. Your AB was surly healed of this affliction when you sent it out to Addison, Illinois to the great ZR-1 master Yoda himself.
