Well I just changed my rear ujoints out for new series 1350 spicers and changed all the fluids with fresh getting everything ready for the Texas BBQ. So early this morning I take it out for another balls out top speed run which I havent done in 2 years. Since I'd done all the suspension stuff/new tires everything balanced Spec stage 3+ clutch blah blah blah! So did it and car runs freaken great and like always runs right up to 179mph and handles smooth as glass. But while I was at light spead I looked at where my tac was. Last time at the exact same speed I was at about 7000 to 7100 rpm's. This time it was reading 8000 rpm's.:icon_scra No doubt my tac is off but what would cause it to go out of calibration that much? Also my gamin GPS said 181 mph. Ah! Whats the difference 179 or 181. At that speed who cares.

I've read some things about a capacitor going bad in the cluster and causing the tach to read high. The write-up stated that the original capacitors dry out or something and have to be replaced. That's all I know.
Where in the world are you able to that fast??? The roads around here (SoCal) are wal to wall Camrys and SUV's making a speed run like that out of the question. Color me jealous.

Rick you are certifiably nuts...but anyway...Id just average the two and you get 180! Lower that car and you will get over 180.

Wow wow wow! Guy's! Yes Ryan I may be nut's but I can't be the only one who's ever topped their Z out. Although I'm starting to feel like I'm the only one. And Kevin there's no way in hell I would ever take my hands off that steering wheel to snap a picture at that speed. Not even I am that crazy. That photo was a frame out off a video I made with a video camera strapped to the steering column. The video is has been floating around the site for a couple of years now.
There's a huge difference in going down the drag strip for a few seconds and hitting maybe 120mph and really hauling the mail at about 180. You outta try it some time. It will make your hair stand on end.

If I get to 150 I better be airborne! haha, maybe once I sort out my little vibration. I think I have a tire out of balance too. What I worry most about though isnt that I will crash ( I should) it is that I will go to jail, lose my clearance and my job all over the thril of speed. I have to say when I was flying a real jet and not the robot I am now, i got that thrill every day. Now it does take a quick blast in the ZR to quench my thirst, but 180...not until I get on an oval.

I'm curious how long (miles) it took to get up to 180.
My guess with shut down you would need at least
4-5 miles of straight smooth road. Where?

you're looking at a minimum of 5 miles to get to 180 on a stock carMines got PP top end with forced air ram air system and open air temp sensor mounted right inside the mouth of the ram air. But I'm still running stock cats and manifolds with a Borla exhaust. So it's not totally stock. It hits 165mph really quick but after that the climb to 180mph is a bit slower. I think thats the case with any car capable of that speed. The last 20 miles an hour to top speed comes slower. I would like to know how many miles it takes for it to get to 180 also but thats just to much to be paying attention to while your going that fast. When I hit the exit I'm still at 150mph on the brakes. There are some corners and bridges but very slight. I never have to let off the gas for any of them. But I will be in the middle of both lanes in the long corners. The car handles so good at that speed that I don't feel uncomfortable at all. But I don't feel comfortable passing other cars up at that speed and will slow down until I'm passed them. Hey if I'm gonna die I'd rather die instead of taking other people out with me.
But guy's thats the last time I'm doing that on a public road. I've gotten away with it many times. I don't worry about the car or me. I worry about the cops. They'ed through my azz in prison and impound my car if they caught me doing that. I just don't need that sheet in my life. Just not worth it. Drag strip is cheap and and always there.
There's always Big Bend ORR! Curtis can tell you all about that!

There's always Big Bend ORR! Curtis can tell you all about that!Curtis Ward has. It was at the last BBQ I attended. You had that white C5 rear 1953 front fusion thing corvette with you that time. But Cutis showed me his photo album in glenns garage. Also told me how much life insurance he took out on himself when he was racing. Of course that was until he let somebody else borrow it to go road racing and they totalled it.

Well, mine makes 410 at the wheels...just a little better than stock and I've hit 170MPH at the texas mile...twice. That is a standing mile...that means you start at 0 MPH! That's going on right now as I type this as a matter of fact. Bob and Sanjay and W i l l did better times but they are way beyond stock. two 415's and whatever Bob has 385 If I remember right.
I've run the BBORR twice and the last RRORR and have quite a bit of seat time in the 160's...I would say around 100 miles or so. Just didn't want to get DQ'ed like Curtis did, but I'll admit it was tempting to see how fast my car could really go. I have little doubt it could hit 180 in 6th even with my gears. I'm bumping the rev limiter in 5th at 170. They are really strict out there about safety...If you get caught going even 1 MPH over your tech speed and you will be DQ'ed...no arguments. You also can't go 1 mph beyond 30 MPH lower than your your target speed! We had one really experienced person not able to make the return run because she violated this rule last year. It was sad to see the Marfa Presidio Event get cancelled because of some ******* judge.
Just can't see how it would take four more miles to make 10 more MPH.
I wish more of you would do some ORR...it's absolutley what our cars were built for. It's pretty expensive though and dangerous and the safety stuff can be a drag, but that has been the best experience of my life with my ZR1 hands down. It's really a pretty good car.
The thing is that my car has 4:09's or 4:10's, I dont know which.
Does anyone know if any of us are at the Texas Mile this weekend?
