Hi,
As you might expect there are a lot of early on issues with any used Vette now matter how well it was cared for. Our issue now is the mega loud exhaust for town driving. I thought my 87 was loud, the ZR really shakes the fillings loose. Here is what Cherry wants. She would like the exhaust note of the factory stock 1990 ZR1. Nice rumble at idle and minimal droning under load. At this time the Y pipe is SS and looks to be 3" in diameter.
The mufflers appear to be SS and do show some signs of being close to the end of their service life. If anyone out there has a stock "take off"" cat back system or just the mufflers that they want to get out of their garage, just give me a PM or whatever.
Any hints or advice would sure be nice.

Thanks,
Cherry and Don

y pipe? the zr1 exhause should be a true dual exhaust/ magna flow makes a good 3 in system some have used here and say it has a nice sound, and is pretty quiet too . or you could do what i did which was to change over to super turbo mufflers with dual exits .

Yep  Pictures are Always welcome. It is often nice if you are using Photobucket to select Medium when uploading photos to Photobucket. That way the picture will be quarter page and you can paste two pictures side by side ;)
Unless you want to show us more detail with a full page width picture.
If I were closer to ya (exhaust is in Visalia, CA) I would just drop my "Stock Take Off" exhaust (91' Z with 50K miles) system on your driveway (The stock exhaust system as well as the Air Induction system will not fit on your doorstep) :D
The exhaust showin (91' Z) is all one piece with the two CATS with manifolds separate pieces (three pieces in all).

Hi,
I assume the system is in CA. Is the 90 Z a true dual system ? I have not had a chance to put the Z on a hoist yet but are the only cats at the base of the manifold ? What diameter is the inlet of the stock muffler ? Hope to get the z on the rack during the upcoming week. Lots to do.
Thanks,
Don

The '90 Z has a very restrictive resonator. You could probably more easily buy a take-off LT1 or LT4 system, which would flow better, and have a shop modify the headpipe to attach to the LT5. I suspect you'd get the sound quality you want, for cheap. Only thing you'll miss out on is the dual square tips.

I believe I removed what you want to install what you have!;) I've got a stock 90 header set with the stock AIR harness, n cats and a 2-1/2" stainless Borla cat-back I'd let go.
The Borla had no droning except once in a while I'd get a quick "WOW" out of it around 3300 rmp after sitting for about 20-30 minutes...Personality, I guess! On the dyno with this setup it turned 339 RWHP w/ no mods other than the exhaust. PM me if you're interested.
