I finally got my results from the Michigan NCRS Chapter meet about 2 weeks ago where I had my 95 ZR-1 judged.
The car managed to receive a "Top Flight" award - not that I didn't expect it given the roughly 4800 miles on the car.
The car scored 99.4% or 4477 points out of 4500. So what points did I lose?

Operations - No points deducted (in fact - 3 bonus points for bringing a fire extinguisher)

Interior - 4 point deducted. 2 points - I need to have 2 sets of keys and they both had to have the knockouts (one was missing),
and the other 2 points was for dust in the door jams (I kid you not!).

Exterior - No points deducted

Mechanical - 10 points deducted for dealer replacement battery - 50% originality lost

Chassis - 12 points deducted - 6 for Bosch oil filter, 3 for "wrong" shock tag (more on this later - it deserves a separate thread),
1 for a deteriorating "AIR Pump Filter", and 2 for cleanliness (oil on master cylinder and grease on rear shock).

An added bonus was meeting Gary Cline who was having HIS 95 ZR-1 judged.
Gary was an engineer at Mercury Marine and was heavily involved in both the development and production of the LT5.
Lots of stories from Gary, including a good explanation of what happened when they went from Birmal heads to Dunn heads and why they would develop the few extra HP.

I'll post this at the "other site as well."

Here's a picture of my Z being judged:

Here's a picture of Gary's car being judged - How many NCRS judges can you fit in (or on) a ZR-1?

There were other Corvettes as well:

Congrats on Top Flight. Beautiful ZR-1. Did they sample the air in the spare tire to verify it came from Bowling Green, Kentucky?

Wow!! Congratz!! Nice Z! (But, how do they know the dirt in the door jams didn't come from the surroundings at the judging station?...JK)

Congrats!! seems like some of those deductions can easily be corrected ( dust buster) I think their pens would run out of ink if they were judging my car

I believe a 91 NCRS with 30K miles recently sold for $33K, the premium apparently carriers over to Zs too.

Do you know what number Gary's Black/Tan car is? I've been documenting the rare color '95s, and I'd like to add this to the list. I narrowed it down to 243 or maybe 403.

Congratulations on your top flight. :handshak:

If you are going to do the judging thing again get a NCRS sticker for the window and a battery disconnect switch. With these and a fire estinguisher you should get 10 bonus points (instead of the 3).

Few other items are a easy fix (like the oil filter and dirt).

Typically the judging is more strigent as you move up to a Regional then a National flight award, so fix the easy things if you are going further.

Congrats again :worship:

Congrats. Thanks for detailing your experience. At 4,000 miles I'm pretty sure I'm in the same scoring range. Trying to decide if I want to go that route or not.
Do you have any pictures of your 'stuff' that came with the car? I'd love to see if I'm missing anything. example: the little cardboard instruction sleeve that the remote came in which I do have but who knows what I am missing.

Gary's 95 is #208. It is also a dual Dunn head car.

I would recommend purchasing the NCRS judging manual. It details all the little things that come with the vehicle that have a point value associated with them. The best way to approach the judging process if you have never done it before is to judge your own car using the manual in advance of the event. But with a low mileage car, it will not be difficult.

Congratulations on the Top Flight, and 4477 of 4500 is nothing to sneeze at.=D> There isn't much you could do about the battery, but the other things can be addressed.

Got a kick out of the picture with at least five judges swarming on one car.
