The June 1989 Motor Trend has a top speed article where 2 ZR-1s were tested. The article states that the top speed test car had lowered suspension and a roll cage, as it had been used for GM top speed testing. The other car in the article appears to be the red/red #3 car. Have you come across the roll-cage car in your research?

The top speed was 181!

I read that too. I have an idea on that car. I will post some pictures tomorrow. They had a few with roll cages. Probably the Kim Baker Talledega test car, but I will post some pictures tomorrow. Eric

There were several roll bar prepared pre 1990 ZR-1s that it could be. The one I know of that some members of the press drove is this one:

This is either 1989 #042, #049, or #053

Does anyone have anything on P9Y078? It was a UK car. Black with tan interior. I have the trans, rear clip, doors, front and rear bumpers and seats.

Don't know what the vin was though. Does the rear clip framework have a vin stamped in it somewhere?

Brett, I have P9Y078 as a Red/Red leather car. It was VIN 44. (I could be wrong) I have most of the 89 build sheets and I don't see any that match the black/saddle configuration.

There are none from 01 to 17 that match
The 1990 prototype 89s hav P0Y numbers so not in 33 to 39
There are none from 40 to 55 that match
58 does not match
There are none from 61 to 84 that match

So that leaves

56,57,59,60 (Museum could not find these build sheets)
Or one of the actives 18 to 32(not #25 I have this sheet and its white/Gray)

Could it be dark Sapphire Metallic? I have a few France fleet Media cars with Sapph/Tan

All of the car that I have is black. The seats are tan leather. Geoff said that they came from this car.

Hmmm... Well what ties the "P9Y078" to this car? The range that 78 falls in should be in the VIN range #40 to #54 range, but I have all of those and none of them are Black/Saddle.

Three of them are black though

#42 Blk/Red
#47 BLK/BLK
#53 BLK/Red.

It could be the Kim Baker car shown earlier in the thread. It was in France during the Press Intro and per testimony none of those cars came back.

Are the seats the only saddle parts you have?
The Ken Baker car had a roll bar any signs of a roll bar?

If it falls in the #40 to #54 range it would have been assembled the last week of October 1988 to Early November 1988.

Are there any date codes on the parts? the seats?

If the parts are dated later it would most likely be after that group. There was about a 45 day gap between #54 and #55. They built #55 the first week of January 1989.

I do not recall seeing a black car in the graveyard pictures. Could the Black car have ben a 90 that was sold car that was wrecked/strpped in England later??

This one was an 89 that was cut in half instead of smashed. According to Geoff, the later cars were not smashed. They were all cut in half. That's how he acquired the parts.

I forgot that those parts came from the US. I knew those cars were cut in half as I saw some par5ts from them several years ago.

So was the source of P9Y078 from the US and not the UK? Eric

Sorry for the confusion. The car Britt has is the car on the left in the lower picture. This is a graveyard car.

The panels he is using to reconstruct it came from an 89 zr-1 that was cut up here in the US.
