I'm helping a friend with a top end refresh and we're doing powder-coat. Question is, does the throttle body need to be disassembled for powder coating or will the springs and plastic pieces tolerate the curing oven?

I completely dissesembled mine. To me if your going to do it you might as well do it right. You will be glad you did. It will look spectacular at any angle and in any light.

How did you deal with the throttle plate screws and adjusting the plate positioning.

I take mine apart as well, I took a sanding disk that I have that fits inside the back of the throttle plates and sand down the back of the screws so they will come out, when reinstalling the screws I use lock-tite.

Mine were swaged down inside the holes so that wasn't an option for me. It will mess the threads up so I just drilled and taped it to the next size up.

I just ground them to the right length.

Can the primary stay in place? The temperature does not affect the spring?

Do you have one small enough to get in there and do the primary throttle plate or do you leave that in place?

I left the primary in place. you have to take the secondary plates out because there are thin plastic spacers behind the throttle cable springs and will melt when they bake it at 600 degrees for 6 hours 2 burn off any contaminants.
