The General Info linked from the Registry home page states that the 1991 cars had improved doors.... what specifically is different on the 91 doors that constituted the improvement?
Also, was FX3 standard on all ZR-1 including the '90?
Thanks a bunch for any help !

Scott, I don't know much about the doors...actually I've never seen a 91 door, LOL.
However my window sticker lists "selective ride and handling" package as part of "ZR1 Special Performance Package @ $27,016.00"......humm odd I never noticed that they didn't use the "-" in between the R and the 1 on the window sticker listing of the package?...:icon_scra

Thanks for the info Tom - I've never seen a '91 door either but I will be soon.
Really curious how the '91 door was improved....... :happy1:

Not an addition..... unfortunately a replacement.
Needed to sell the '95 and am in the market for a nice, earlier year car.
Wish I could have afforded an addition but priorities change and she says mine have!

FX3 was on all ZR-1s with the exception of some of the 88 prototypes.

Have looked at both the 90 and 91 doors...unless there is something internal that changed the only diff I see is the switch to body color molding vs the black (regardless of body color) molding on the MY 90.
The 90-92 retained the extra 'pin & keeper' at the top rear of the door then in 93+ that feature disappeared.

Thanks Eric and Michael!
Seems the door improvement couldn't have been of significance.
Appreciate your help.

i wonder does the 90 door have the sound deadening of the later cars .could that be the improvement, the sound deadening gives the door a more solid feel when you close it

90's and 91's both only had a thin plastic cover under the door panel, didn't really do much of anything I have never noticed anything "special" in the 91 doors over the 90 doors.

Scott, I guess I'm sorry to hear that the 95 must go, but I also hope that there is nothing catastrophic going on. I hope that you get her value when you sell her.
On a more positive note....a ZR-1 is a ZR-1, better to have one than not to have one!

Sorry to hear you had to sell the 95. I can tell you I've been very happy with my 91 for many years. I've driven in a 95 often and there was a difference, the biggest being the amount of road noise that did NOT find its way into the passenger compartment in the 95. The 95 interior also seemed to be better put together. At the time I drove in the 95 it had 40K miles while my 91 only had 3K miles on it. My 91, however, had rattles, buzzes, and other random interior sounds. Marc Haibeck added sound deadening material in the doors, console, rear deck, and foot wells. His observation was it now felt as tight and rode every bit as well as a 95. His top end package didn't hurt either. I've put 9K miles on it since and it is still as tight as it was after the "adjustments". Enjoy, like Tom said, "a ZR-1 is a ZR-1, better to have on than not have one!"

I think at least some of the reduced noise and rattle is a result of the softer spring rates. The car crashes around less on the road with the '92+ springs.
The only interior changes I can think of from '90 to '91 are the changed seat controls, and the changed valet key.

Thanks Tom. No, nothing catastrophic. Been feeling a bit stretched financially so started examining ways to "downsize". I blame it all on Dave Ramsey! Wish I'd never heard the man's name!
Also trying to downsize my gut. Went on a diet and stopped drinking beer. Can you imagine having to sell your ZR-1 and not drinking while you do it?

Thanks Scott. I imagine Marc's 500 package is able to keep you just ahead of the noise! No doubt I will see comfort differences moving back in years from the '95 so the sound deadening effort might be something I'll consider after I'm into something.

Okay, good deal....on the Dave Ramsey thing:thumbsup: way to be man!
:o he would shoot me if I ever called his show! I try to follow along with his program....but, I could never justify to him why I can't just have a ZR-1 ( paid for too ) to drive and live in the NYC/Metro area....he just wouldn't understand. So I violated rule number 1, I bought a new DD on time, but I kind of like my 08 Cobalt Sport.....and the 1.9% GMAC deal didn't hurt either!:o
On the beer thing?....No, no f*&king way! Except, if I had to downsize to keep fitting in the 90's sport seats....they motivate me to keep the weight in check!

There is no particular '91 in mind as of yet Rick - I just plan to start looking at '90-'92 cars. My car is supposed to be heading to the Florida Panhandle later this week.
The gentleman buying it has a beautful "92 red/white and '95 yellow/beige so she's going to a good home.

One minor change in door trim happened somewhere in early 91 production. The trim on the early 91s has 7 threaded 10MM studs that bolt it to the door while a production change had the trim with a 1 stud at each end and clip retainers in the middle of the door.To get the the early trim off the door the door has to come completely apart.I dont know why G.M. would design the early 91 trim to be bolted on when the trim for the 90s was of the later design with the snap clips.I believe this bolt on trim was the only design on a C4,lucky me.

Thats correct when I R&Red both my 90 and 91 doors the plastic sheet was there. I upgraded to that foam insert that MADVET sells? Improvement who knows
