O.k. Since I have been having an alarm trouble, rather than locking with the power lock switch, I closed the door, inserted the door key and turned to lock.
Once locked, I tried to turn counterclockwise to remove the key but it won't budge.
With my limited knowledge;
1. tumbler got screwy and got jammed in lock position.
2. whatever it is that coordinates between cylinder lock to to lock/inlock mechanism is jammed.
3. Or alarm switch (one with wires coming out) behind the lock cylinder is jammed.

I guess I will have o pull the door panel to take a closer look and if all fails, order a pair of lock cylinders.

If anyone has any helpful info please post.

Anyone with an assembly manual? I can't find any in the shop manual.

Are you looking for the door [dis]assembly section of the manual? If that is the case I can fax to you

Yes. If you have it that would be terrific.
Unfortunately, I do not have a fax machine at work. Can you scan?

I don't know if your car is different than the 90 but the conector on the door handle is where the alarm is conected to on the earlier cars.

it can be unpluged from the main harnes.

It could be that it needs to the fliped if its like ours but I have pictures of my door apart if you need it.

Thanks Phrog. Michael sent me pages (and I mean pages...) of assembly manual. I am going to dig into it in a couple of hours.
i think I am all set. It looks like there is a pivot on the end of the cylinder and a rod down to the lock assembly.

Pulled the door panel and confirmed it's the lock cylinder (tumbler). I will have to replace both in order to match the new key - a royal pain!

O.K! I just replaced both locks - what a royal pain!!!
I guess, after, 16 years, had to do it sooner or later.
Thanks, Michael. Assembly manual sheets you sent me helped a lot. Along needle nose and a long screw driver helped.

Glad to hear all went well and that you are good to go now. I know who to ask when I get issues with locks now.

Hey, Craig,
Hope all is well. It just takes a lot of patience and good digital dexterity.

Glad to hear you got everything worked out. Did the painter remove the locks? Do you think that had something to do with the problem you had?

No. Locks were old and in retrospect, I should have asked him to replace with a new set.
I did confirm that they removed the handle before painting as I have asked. That alone must have added 2-3 hrs - real honest guys. Some painter wouldn't have gone to all that trouble.

I am 95% finished. Only resto remaining is sway bar bushing, tranny and rear end oil change, coolant flush and wheel refinish.
Perhaps we can hook up any the next local show.

Did you get your car aligned?

Sorry, I wish I could. I am tapped out on vacation time to retire in a few months with pay for 60 days; I wish I have more leave saved up. I would like to go to Carlisle one day, but you know these events really suck for me without having the Z. You guys are fortunate to be able to drive to these events. Hope to see you soon. Aren't you due a vacation in Hawaii? :dancing
