Rob stopped by my work today. I knew it was him because those headers sounded awesome. He tossed me the keys and said tell me what you think. I'm gonna be brutally honest. The headers looked great and sounded fantastic. This 93 ZR-1 only has 32k miles on it. At 410rwhp 4:10 rear gears and a B&B exhaust I was expecting something more impressive than what I experienced. I mean really.:icon_scra My car accelerates more violently than that with less HP and stock gearing. Even Brads 92 white Z that dynoed at 395 with 3.92 rear gears that I drove accelerated as violently as mine accept even more violent. I didn't want to burst his bubble cuz he was very impressed with it so I didn't tell him what I really thought. He also had a vibration in the rear he wanted Corey to look at but the vibration was still there after he left Coreys so I told him to check the drive shaft orientation. There should be a yellow paint mark on the drive shaft and one on the yoke. He checked and said sure enough it was 180 degrees out. The guys that installed his 4:10 gears installed it out. He rotated it back around and no more vibration. As far as the power goes! I just don't know.

could it have been heat soaked? Where is the air intake temp sendor located?
If it is in the stock location then could be the plenum area was too hot while parked after a drive. Mine does that.
Else if it was a cold car and cool day then ???? dunno.
Maybe secondaries not kicking in?
Let him drive yours and let him in on it.

Even when it's up around 100 degrees 80% humidity the heat doesn't seem to effect the power much at all on mine. But my open air temp sensor has been relocated to the front of the car which is supposed to be good for maybe 10hp. His secondaries are working. He's one of those guys that likes to drive around with full engine power off. So when I first hit it I realized it was off and turned it on and could feel the difference so they are working.

Our ZR1's and the women in our lives share many similar characteristics.
While they all have the same accessories, each one is a little different.
Each and every one of them have their own individual personalities, quirks, kinks & bends.
Some are bigger here or smaller there.
Some are wild, some are tame.

Some will get you there quick, others take a little while longer.

It's all good.

Be careful that what you are experiencing with the seat of your pants may not equate to acceleration. Looking at 60s Corvettes, if you ever drove a solid lifter small block back to back with a solid lifter bog block, you would swear that the small block was faster and more brutal. It part it is the way the torque kicks in. But run side by side, the big block was always significantly faster. This is due to the more even, but higher torque curve of the big block.

Point is that what you are "feeling" may not be what is happening in acceleration.

In other words bb62 is saying that you need your "butt dyno" calibrated

It could be perception I guess. When we both hit the drag strip together then we will see. The #'s dictate that he should kill me at the drag strip.

the power key has an off switch? and yes these cars heat sink very badly, the colder denser air you can get in the better.

Rick, what type of Dyno does Corey have?

Dynopacks show higher then DynoJets by about 10% Mustang Dynos show about 10% less.

So when somebody posts or claims Dyno #'s always ask what dyno.

Rick, ask your friend to put it on a DynoJet.

I think your friends Z will make around 355+- on a DynoJet sorry to burst his bubble.

Dyno's are tuning devices.

So lets not get caught up with the dyno #'s
I see too many people at the track get disappointed from there cars the shop told them some big dyno #'s but MPH told another story.

MPH speaks louder then any Dyno.

Don't forget that dyno numbers can be tweaked by unscrupulous people as well. You can get much higher than actual numbers if you want to play with the dyno Rick, what type of Dyno does Corey have?

PeteThat maybe true but on the same dyno my car did 342rwhp@337ft torque with stock 3:45 gears and his did 410rwhp so heat soak or not thats still 68 more hp than mine with 4:10 rear gears. I find it hard to believe that heat soak is gonna zap that much hp from his. Grant it I have the finalic plenum spacers which keeps my plenum luke warm to the touch instead of frying pan hot. And my open air temp sensor has been relocated to the inside of my forced air scoop at the front of the car. But 342 vs 410 on the same dyno! Come on.:icon_scra
And that was before I'd done my top end porting or added the Fidanza flywheel.

please dont take offence ,but to even think corey would play with his hp numbers is nuts . he is absoulty the most honest stand up guy i have ever met . he has a dyno jet

Here's what i would suggest.
Dyno both cars same day, same dyno or track both cars same day, same driver (check MPH).

I had a bad experience with a dynojet that i would always use after they moved there shop to another location at the same time i installed cams and it showed me that i lost power over stock cams and i pulled the motor 3 times changing cams that was fun,i took the car to 2 different tracks
MPH showed it was making power, i figure there was an issue with there dyno.

I always take my Z to 2 different dynos (DynoJet) and 3 different tracks just to make sure.

I don't know who corey is, I am just saying it is possible. I didn't accuse him, nor would I. I have seen shops that have done this, but was again, not accusing anyone.

PeteHey Pete how have you been lately? Both cars were dynoed on the same day on the same dyno. Mine went right after robs. Here's the video even.

Dyno's are tuning devices.
Pete

That pretty well sums it up

While we all like to compare dyno numbers amongst each other the reality is that most of the time there are just too many factors involved to make such comparisons terribly valid. Same day/place certainly helps mitigate some of these but care must still be taken in order to get meaningful results.
