So...where would a feller find one ?? After owning this car for like a hundred years, i've never been stopped and questioned concerning a front plate.
Most of the time, they are asking questions bout the car, well, the two times i've been stopped.
I want a black one, so someone send me one, or point me in the right direction,...Mkay??

I got mine from this guy about a month ago. My brother-in-law owns a body shop so he painted mine white for me. He had to re-inforce the screws holes 'cause they were very weak spots. A little rough on the ZR-1 indents but he took care of that also. Yes, $20.00 was a lot but when it's the only game in town you have to play by their rules

Last time I spoke to the Ebay guy a few years back he said he purchased the molds from a guy who didnt want to make them any more. I was one of the first to buy from this new lot again amolost 3 years ago. Still havent had it painted yet although. Who knows :hello:

Looks like same mold, I had 1 from from the guy in Florida, cracked it, GC knows that story, got a new one from Ebay, looks the same, pretty rough, needs work before being painted, also Stock is flexible, Ebay is hard non flexing, having the new one painted now, stock 1 fits better, but ebay is OK, looks better

Not the only game in town any longer. I just bought the last one advertized. I'll make a new mold and tidy up the ZR1 indention prior to making the new mold. I'll also make sure the tabs are thicker on each unit.
No more $20 shipping either.
How about me making one that has the ZR1 script like the script in the ZR1 Net Registry logo? I think I can do that with a little CNC work and then make a new mold for that one too.

Out of polyurethane like the original "Corvette" license plate filler or fiberglass ? Poly hell I wait for one of yours ;)

Make one like the Registry logo and I will buy one without a doubt. Then get the decals from the registry to fit in the recess and i would be all set

The original poly type is injection molded. I can actually cast these out of plastic resin and they would be fine. It will take a little time to get things done but it will be a nice piece. I like what I call the "script" logo. I will make these for sure.

If you were going to start with something as a mold, then change the indented logo, you might start with the factory plate. The "ZR-1" one is bigger and does not fit all that well compared to the factory "CORVETTE" plate.
It would be cool to have it in plastic vs fiberglass, though.

Making the pattern for the mold will not be hard to do. After it's made, I'll have it CNC'd with the ZR1 script and make the mold at that point.
Once I have made the first good part, I'll start a thread and show pictures.

The 90 is a stand alone cover due to the bumper contour change in 91. I'll have to make a mold for each style.

Do you need an OEM 90 one for a template?
Thanks, but I do have one already.
The templates will be cast from aluminum and then CNC'd with the ZR1 script. One will be made for 1990 and the other for 1991-1995. At that point, molds will be made from each one and the parts will be cast from plastic resin, thicker around the mounting tabs for strength.

Scott,
Thanks, I must suck at Ebay searches because I could not find it. I'll run it by the owner and notice he only ships to upper 48. If he is any kind of supporter of veterans, maybe I can get shipped to my FPOaddress in Japan as it is same as shipping stateside. Wow, $20 shipping and it fits in a flat rate box anywhere in US.

Colorado is one of the many states that require front plates. In my <1,000 miles/year I have not been pulled over in 4 years for not having a front plate. My thought was that you?ll get stopped for another infraction (like speeding) and they?ll add on not having a front plate to your ticket.

in the 27 years I have owned C4s I never had a front Plate. I got pulled over once in my 89 for window tint (before it was legal and was way dark anyway), along with no front plate.. it was a Trooper on the on ramp from I-39 S to I-88 E. No ticket and I forget if it was a warning ticket or verbal. (I played dumb)
Otherwise no issues so far
