Today, and unfortunately did not get to install it as the "qualified" people at the stereo place sold me the wrong harness =D>.
I figures I would post up pictures for anyone who was curious about updateding/removing their system but was undure of what is involved.
I am not going to do a full writeup on it until later, but I can always edit this post. I am sure this is old school to a lot of you, but someone may be able to gain something from it.
I am not an expert, so ymmv.
First bolt I removed. This is a 7mm head, and easily accessible.

Bolt head slightly hidden by carpet

Removal of the "wedge" in the shift knob. This wedges did not require "stradling" the seats, or super human effort to remove. I simply sat in the passenger seat, clamped the vice grips on and pulled up while gently rocking it left to right. Came out easily.

After unscrewing the shift knob, you have to loosen the 1.5mm allen head to remove the reverse lockout.

Now you can gently lift up the shifter plate. Be careful as your lighter is still plugged in.

Now this is where we are at;

To remove the faceplate there are several more 7mm bolts (shown in pics below) and you also must remove the upper vent (two phillip head screws shown in pics below)

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a260/chaosrob/DSC_0542.jpg
Once the vent is removed it exposes a "hidden" bolt.

Now you can gently remove the faceplate, starting at the bottom. Be careful as you still have to unplug the engine power switch.

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a260/chaosrob/DSC_0548.jpg
Now we have this;
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a260/chaosrob/DSC_0551.jpg
The radio is attached to the supports by 4 phillip head screws

In lieu of taking the whole center console out I opted for just removing the upper support screw, and pushing it to the side when I removed the radio. This screw is shown here;

Now you simply unscrew the 4 phillips head screws, and remove the unit. Be careful to push the console upper "ears" to the side gently to avoid damaging it.

I am going to add the speaker removal and install, along with the amp, new headunit, etc when I get time. Should be by the end of this week as I have to run to Dallas Tuesday.
I am going to reserve a few more posting spots so I can continue without breaks in the pictures.
If you have anything to add, or find somewhere that I am correct, please feel free to join in and correct me.

Good work worthy of some reputation points. :thumbsup:
There is really no need to reserve the spaces as we could have inserted them to keep the continuity. So when the time comes that you have finished, we can remove any extra posts that are not needed.
:cheers:

Paid memeber of the registry? Yes I am. It is far from complete though, although I hope to have it done when I return from Dallas on Thursday. Thanks for the kind words guys.

Rain broke for about an hour so I did some more work today. I have some more pictures, and I will post them up when I get a chance, but it is Saturday and I am going out tonight.

Good Job there TA
This is just the kind of Tech Info and along with DYNO's Index that will make this the real deal on the Place for all da scoop on the Z to hang out at.
I think we are there now but these continued tech info with pic''s will cement it all.
It has been a long road since the early days has it not ZF?
