Can anyone tell me the difference between this manual and the red covered ones. What information, if any is left out of this one. Looking for a manual to take on trips and curious if this would suffice for 99% of problems that might come up.
Thanks

Are you thinking this Service manual Supplement? Prolly not as this is for disassembly and assembly of the LT5 mostly
Hardly a manual for a trip with limited tools :sign10:
Where can I get the white 1991 Service Manual?
What is in that white 1991 Service manual?

I'm looking for something to take on trips cheap, that will cover the majority of problems that might come up. I can have and will take the LT5 manual, but I bought the standard manual from Helms and had to put it in a (gigantic) loose leaf binder and would prefer a book instead for trips.

To attempt to answer the question you originally asked, the preliminary manual will in many cases direct you to the previous year's edition in order to detail procedures and tasks that did not change for that year. IOW, it's pretty much useless unless you also have the previous year's edition on hand, IMO.

Each year the ZR-1 came out...90-95...there was a white version of the manual...except for '91 & '93...it was the preliminary edition of the red manual. The white manuals have "zero" info on the LT5 engine, the '90-'93 thin red version...the service manual supplement...covered the LT5 engine stuff the white manual didn't include.
Basically the white version covered non-ZR-1 specific stuff.
If you have a 90-93 ZR-1, and you have the thick red service manual and the thin red service manual supplement, you have everything you need...adding the white service manual version would be a waste of money.
If you have a 94-95 ZR-1, and you have the thick two volume red service manual, you have everything you need...those manuals covered everything from the base Corvette to the ZR-1 Corvette.
Some, but not all (???) of the C4's...84-96...had the white preliminary manual and some had electrical supplement manuals.
I have not researched anything regarding the manuals, in detail, but it appears that most of the later C4's all had a white preliminary service manual, followed shortly with the more comprehensive red service manual.
Here is what I know for sure:
'84 - had a single silver cover service manual (SM) and a red electrical sup
'85 - had a single red cover (SM)
'86 - had a single red cover (SM)
'87 - had a single red cover (SM), a single white cover (SM), and a red electrical sup
'88 - had a single red cover (SM), and a red electrical sup
'89 - had a single red cover (SM)
'90 - had a single red cover (SM), a single white cover (SM), and a red electrical sup
'91 - had a single red cover (SM)
'92 - had a two volume red cover (SM), and a single white cover (SM)
'93 - had a two volume red cover (SM)
'90-'93 - had the thin red cover LT5 supplement
'94 - had a two volume red cover (SM), and a single white (SM)
'95 - had a two volume red cover (SM), and a single white (SM)
'96 - had a two volume red cover (SM), and a single white (SM)
* there may be white cover (SM's) for '85, '86, '88, '89, '91 and '93, but I have not come across any
If anyone has anymore service manual info that I may have missed, please add to this topic.
Ebay is the best place to find the various manuals...look around for the best price. Get the red cover service manuals...they cover everything, and don't waste your money on the the white cover preliminary manuals.

Actually, that is not true for the big '90 white preliminary manual. One of those white ones came with my Z, along with the red thin electrical supplement manual. I also have the red LT5 service manual supplement.
My '90 white manual has a section for LT5 (VIN J) General Engine Mechanical & LT5 (VIN J) Drivability & Emissions. I don't know about the other white manuals, but the '90 white manual definitely does have LT5 info (at least, mine does). But I am still going to get the red version.

I stand corrected...now I'm going to look through my other white prelim manuals.

I assume all those manuals you cited are Corvette Service Manual and NOT ZR1 Service manual specific?
This Service Manual Supplement is limited to detail LT5 engine pictures, bolt torque, Sealant recommendation, and sequence of disassembly and assembly engine only. No electrical, diagnostics or fault finding (60 pages). Also included is Oil capacity, Engine Specifications, and Special Tools.

Yep...other than the 90-93 LT5 service manual supplementl...there are no ZR-1 specific manuals available.
