hey members,
Ramon and our Spainish friends have worked hard to document all the ZR-1's in Spain....
I've asked that this be put in our master list of all ZR-1's.
Here is the list:
Here I follow to list them by their VIN numbers:
1990 ZR-1 Corvettes:
1G1YZ23J6L5800231 red / black
1G1YZ23J3L5800512 red / black
1G1YZ23J2L5800579 red / black
1G1YZ23J4L5800759 red / red
1G1YZ23J6L5800763 red / saddle
1G1YZ23J1L5800766 red / saddle
1G1YZ23J4L5800826 red / saddle
1G1YZ23J4L5800874 black / black
1G1YZ23J1L5801545 black / gray
1G1YZ23J7L5801713 red / red
1G1YZ23J7L5801758 white / red
1G1YZ23JXL5802046 red / black
1G1YZ23J9L5802202 TOTALED red / red
1G1YZ23J3L5802342 black / black
1G1YZ23J9L5802734 MANUAL AC OPTION black / black
We know that in the Canary Islands there is a 1990 ZR-1 Black/Black but we do not have the VIN information.
1991 ZR-1 CORVETTES:
1G1YZ23J3M5800009 TOTALED red / saddle
1G1YZ23J2M5800034 black / black
1G1YZ23J1M5800218 white / gray
1G1YZ23J0M5800467 red / black
1G1YZ23J6M5800540 TOTALED black / black
1G1YZ23J8M5800667 red / black
1G1YZ23J8M5801172 yellow / black
1G1YZ23J3M5801337 black / black
1993 ZR-1 CORVETTES:
1G1YZ23J8P5800317 black / light gray
1G1YZ23J4P5800394 black rose metallic / black
We know that in Madrid there is a 1993 ZR-1 Red/Red but we do not have the VIN information.
1994 ZR-1 CORVETTES:
1G1YZ22J8R5800080 black / black
We know that in Barcelona there is a also a 1990 or 1991 ZR-1 but we do not have the VIN information.
We have no records of any 1992 or 1995 ZR-1 Corvettes that may exist in Spain.
All this ZR-1 Corvettes are of the US market specifications. None of them are of the "export" RPO options.
All this cars were imported to Spain from the US or other European countries by private auto sellers or private owners. None of them were sold by GM Europe. GM began to sell the Corvette in Spain with its own dealer network in 1998, with the introduction of the C5 Corvette. We know of some C4 Corvettes that exist in Spain with the "export" RPO options, but they are regular C4 cars not ZR-1.
As per our knowledge, three ZR-1 Corvettes are totaled in Spain due to road accidents. They are 1990 model with VIN number #2202 and 1991 models with VIN numbers #9 and #540.
1991 #9 is severely damaged but is still assembled at the junkyard.
1990 #2202 and 1991 #540 were dismantled in pieces several years ago and the frames were crushed.
Great info!!!!
Thanks to our Spanish friends!

Hello friends.
I update the information about the ZR-1 Corvettes that are in Spain.
We have found details of another 1990 Z that appeared here last month.
1G1YZ23J8L5802725 TOTALED red / saddle
We have found the engine & transmission of this car in a junkyard in Madrid, and as per information given by the owner, unfortunately the car was scraped and dismantled about 10 years ago due to an accident that damaged the entire rear end. They only kept engine & trans and are still for sale now.
Another one that adds to the list of gone ZR-1's....:cry::cry:
It would be nice that some day we can manage to make a registry database of all the ZR-1's that are still alive....it's a hard work, but with the help of all the Club members... all is possible.:icon_thum

:handshak:Easy now.
I don't know anything about living there, never been, but would like to go some day. I have met and corresponded with some really nice Spanish ZR-1 guys. They have extended warm & sincere friendship and open invitations to visit. That's really all this thread is about, fellow ZR-1 people.

OldVetteDude you've crossed a line here.
This forum is a special place and we all work hard to keep it that way.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience, perhaps you deserved it, perhaps not.
That's not the issue here.
If you were half a decent man you would edit your post, and apologize to our Brothers from across the pond.
They've done nothing to deserve your prejudice.
I'm personally offended because my spouse of 28 years is a Spaniard.
I'm sure she could add a few nice words to this conversation.
I'm sure she wouldn't be as polite as I have been.

OLDVETTEDUTE you are totally off the chart...your post is offensive at best and if this your contribution to this forum then you need to move on

I was in Spain (old port city of Cadiz) three weeks ago on business and was thoroughly impressed by the history of the place and the wonderful friendly people. Food & drink was great to. If you recall your history lessons Cadiz is the port Christopher Columbus sailed from back in the day. I hope one day to go back to Spain with the wife and kids and spend a couple weeks touring around. I have also had the pleasure to meet a few of our Spanish Z brothers at Carlisle and you could not find a better group of gentilmen who are just as passionate about their Vettes as any of us in the new world are. Hell, if it weren't for the Spaniards finding this place 500 years ago most of us might still be back in old Europe pulling one another around in ox carts.

Hi Ted.
Dou you have any more information on that 95 ZR-1 in Spain???
Any phone / e-mail / address of the owner?

Any additional information about that car would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Ramon,
The more I remember about that car the more I realize I'm wrong. It was David Lancer and it was actually France--Monacco. Was in Moron and Seville once and always associated that car with that area.

I have broken bread with our ZR-1 brothers from Spain several times and they are nothing but CLASS!
I hope one day soon to travel to Spain and spend some time with Ramon & Pedro
How cool would it be to be driving one of their Z's out in the Spanish country side

This, and the "where do corvettes reside thread" only confirm, to me, how rare these beasts are. I know Aussies who have one, and quite a few in Spain, and I'm sure the rest of Europe....all add up to only a few hundred at best. Yes I know there are hundreds of zr 1 owners who don't post on any forum. I also know I have Never passed one on the road. I'm the only one in my club with one. They are just plain scarce. I have two and want a third. When the collecting world finally realizes not just the scarcity but the uniqueness and just plain fun of these things (not even considering the huge chunk of GM and auto history), the prices will skyrocket (think 63 split window or big block stingray). It may be a while, but eventually the bleedin' obvious will come true. Till then, love 'em for what they are.

Remember that 1990 LT5 engine I found in a junkyard in Madrid (Spain) last year ?? Well, finally I could manage to buy this engine after some negotiation with the owner.
At the end he sold me the engine for more less than I was offering him one year ago!! CRISIS RULES!!!
Some pictures of the "barn find":

The flywheel is missing, but I have the power steering pump (not pictured).
The engine has been sitting in the junkyard for 10 years, so I don't expect that the engine is OK to be dropped as is in a ZR-1. I prefer to dissasembly it completely and see its condition...
Once done, and after seeing how is from the inside, I will decide if it can be rebuilt or it will be used as spares donor.
No trace of the transmission now....

New 1991 ZR-1 Corvette surfaced today in Spain. We had no proof of existance of it until today, that the current owner contacted me requesting some parts for it.
The car has been sitting in a garage for several years, and now he is repairing it to bring it back to life.
It is located in the south of Spain, in Cadiz.
VIN # 1G1YZ23J7M5800014
Bright red exterior with flame red interior.

Recently I could obtain from a junkyard in Spain another ZR-1 engine assembly, this time corresponding to a 1991 model, VIN number 1G1YZ23J6M5800540 which is listed as totaled in the first page of this post.
The engine is nearly complete, except from the flywheel, alternator, a/c compressor, ignition coils & cables and some vacuum secondaries equipment.
Condition of the enigne is unknown, as it comes from a Corvette crashed from behind so many years ago.
Some pictures of it, arrived just today to my workshop:

After more than 10 years laying around the scrapyards, this engine has finally found a home.

Excellent! I have '91 S# 0666 and have been wondering where 0665 and 0667 might be; now I know where the latter is. Hope to have the opportunity to connect with the Spanish brothers in the near future.
