View Full Version : Replacing Injectors

Last Sunday we replaced the injectors in George's 1990 ZR-1. The car does not have many miles on it and the injectors were original.
The results were the car performed significantly better with new injectors.
When I measured the injector coil resistance of the old coils, I found 4 that had low reisitance.
My measurements were taken at room temperature. Most of the injectors read 12-12.5 ohms. Three of the bad injectors read about 6 ohms.
If you still have original 1990 injectors in your ZR-1, I suggest checking/replacing them.

Good to hear. I wonder sometimes how many Zs are out there running on crappy injectors and/or breached vacuum system with owners who are oblivious of the fact.

I've wondered about this. As far as I know I have no injector problems and I've read the '93-'95 injectors will likely not fail.
But after 15 years (or more) could replacing them produce a noticeable improvement in performance - even though the stock injectors haven't really failed?
I am somewhat confused as to the chances of my injectors failing.
I remember Dave J had one fail on his '94 but after reading this article on Marc's site I felt there would be little chance I'd need to replace mine?

Sorry Jim, I know the post was targeting the 90 model but I was just considering this issue when you posted the thread. :icon_scra

There has been document failures of 93-95 injectors and many have replace them and experienced engine improvement.
Dave can chime in on this one...

I believe in David's case it was not a coil insulation failure but one stuck open injector.

Thanks for the quick feedback, guys.
I had just done a search on "injectors" and pulled this thread. I didn't look closely at it's location to realize I was jumping into WAZOO-land.
No place I'd rather be given the choice!
Back on topic, it makes sense that a new set could improve performance even without a full-blown failure.
I bought a set from FIC when they had the limited supply of brand new Bosch injectors and was wondering if I'd really ever use them.
They are vacuum sealed but I guess I'll need to have them checked out before I install them if/when that day comes.

Just another reason I wish I lived in WAZOO-land.
Those Viper gears are still sitting on the shelf next to the injectors !

You are always welcome in the Land of WAZOO. Plan a short trip. Come on out. Do some work on your car (we will help!!). And see the sights of the Nation's Capital, Charm City (Baltimore), Gettysburg, and many other neat places. We are pretty good hosts. Just ask Jerry, Scott, Craig, Marc, George, and etc.

Thanks for the invitation Jim and I hope to someday take you up on it! I was stationed in Norfolk for many years and miss that part of the country.
I've read much of your great hospitality and several WAZOO guys have already helped me out in the past. You guys have a great thing going over there! :notworthy

Yes and yes. I am very glad I did it myself in spite of the few challenges. I learned alot and becoming a bit more intimate with the car sure felt good after it was all over and I turned the key.
Swapped the resonator out with a new B&B X-Pipe and I'm thinking the damn cats need to go next! I love it.
I really need to get those gears swapped out!

I am pretty certain my injectors were replaced somwhere along the line, but its something I would like to look into. Added to my list of stuff, like fix my AC. Find out why my trip computer/mileage/range is not working and what fuse blew on my climate control. Whens the next maintnace day guys?????

The next WMD is Saturday, 21 Aug. We will be putting headers on a 1991 ZR-1. Come on up. I am having the same AC problem with the fuse blowing.
