This is just sad. How does someone let a ZR-1 get to this condition? This one makes mine look like a mint NCRS car. :jawdrop:
The picture of the odometer in the car says 16,039 miles, but the carfax report says it had 76K in '97, which is when the last emissions check was done, so someone must have replaced the CCM. It also had an accident involving damage to the left rear quarter panel back in '92.
They also say it sat for 5 years, but I'd say it's much longer than that. Looking at the condition and what the carfax says, I'd say it's been sitting next to the ocean (its in florida) ever since '97 and has at least 76K miles. According to them "it barely rolls". :jawdrop:
I don't think you could get much for this car even parting it out, anything metal on it is pretty much worthless by now. Just look at the condition of the engine bay, looks like its been sitting IN the ocean!

Either a flood car, or as you said, been sitting outside close to the salt water. Pretty bad when the third brake light housing is rusting.
Apparently it is worth 2,500 to somebody.

There must be more to this story. I wonder if this car was involved in a flood situation? It couldn't get in this shape by just being near the ocean? :dontknow:
(Didn't mean to be redundant, Jeff beat me to the post.)

LOL, Yea that would be me! I was teaching my son how ebay works, walking him through it and Bang! WTF! lol. I looked for a bid retraction option but couldn't find it. I went to ask seller question option and told them the situation. I'm sure it will go for over the 2500.00 :dontknow:
What a shame somebody would leave a car out like that. At least the body panels aren't rusted =D>

that carfax report is BS no someone miss typed the mileage and this car ended up with it.
It looks like a flood car maybe katrina got it but who knows if it turns over and the power comes on that is a little bit of a good sign for me anyway.

Yep, looks like it was taken through registration in 97, and then sat for some reason. 16k, 76k, it all looks the same. I've seen reports that have recorded Km instead of regular miles.

When I was stationed in Germany a few years back, I saw a 90 ZR-1 for sale on a German website called, autoscout24, that was completely let go! It was red/tan but had been sitting in someone's backyard for years. It had green algae all over the exterior of the car and you couldn't even see through the windows it had so much mold and muck! Disgraceful!

That baby was down with the Titanic.
Reminds me of the Uboat Commander ZR-1 years ago that went into the Lake?
Who remembers that - autocross accident in the lake?
I tried to find the photos but couldn't find them. It was a 91+ red car.

I love the way the Ebay Autocheck system rates it a "62", right at the top of the scale for similar vehicles. I wouldn't rate it much past a "2" :thumbsdo:. It sure is getting alot of looks though. This one is probably beyond even the project car status. Wonder if the frame is rusted out... what a shame.

Dude I can not believe how high this car is at with the bidding!
aside from all the other **** I can not even find out if it has brakes that work let alone tires need to be replaced It would have to be able to roll and have working brakes.
I asked for photos of the rear of the car I want to see that area of the frame it is exposed and would be attacked by the salt.
I have lived on a damn island for 3 years I know what can happen to cars but This story smells like ****.
It would be fun to tear it down and make it into my Vert or part out the ZR-1 parts but dude wtf this car is a wreck.
He told me "We dont want to start it" you turned it over wny not try to start it WTF could you do to it that hasnt been done already!!!
aside from no gas in the tank!
Who wants to take bets that the high bidder doesnt buy and its back up again??

Johnny this car is JUNK.I would imagine the frame is toast.I could buy this car and part it out and not feel the slightest bit regretful about killing this ZR-1.If this car has never been in water the owner needs to be shot for letting this car crumble like that.

I was thinking of bringing it to Bowling green busting out a sawzal and having a auction to see who wins the chance to cut off the rear top of it for me convertible project!!
I think the frame might have some issues but all the hardware you see corroded is only black oxide coated not painted, the frame is painted with color and then black so it has some protection...but I can see the front shock mounts are corroded but that just means coil overs!

It's getting so many bids due to a no reserve, as well as all the write up on the forums about the car. This is a parts car at best.

Its the inside of the frame Id be worried about. There too many beat cars out there to buy this for a major project. If I had the money and space I WOULD BUILD A ZR-1 CONVERTIBLE!I was kind of hopping the car that Brett bought would have been one of the Z ragtops.I figure for $20,000 you could buy both the Z and a clapped out convertible, let the fun begin.

Maybe heavy patina can become a new powdercoat color for all of those Rat-Rod ZR-1s out there.

Yes, the forced air probably made for a great path for the salt water to go right into the motor as it rose.....wonder what the Iron insides of the LT-5 look like. Should be fun pulling the plugs out. I have seen cars like this in my job, at first people are like, let me keep the salvage it seems fine, then the wheel bearings seize, etc.
Unfortunately I have seen some pretty nice cars meet this fate, including an original GT500

I think you can get that in parts but I wonder if someone wants to restore this thing It is a low mile car but thats too much for me.
If I could have stole it at 5K Id fee ok about it but 7K and you dont even know if it runs and you need to blast and replate and repaint everything.
not that it isnt something I have already done I can see that its fixable well fixable its just damn 7K

Neither can I. It must be worth $7,400 to someone... :dontknow:
I guess it's like Phrogs said, someone believes they can restore it. Maybe it can be, but it would be a LOT of work. Way, way more work even than my Ebay ZR-1 project. At least mine rolls & has decent tires! And this one went for $600 higher than what I paid for mine.
I'd certainly rather have my engine bay/chassis covered in oil & dirt (which actually kind of protects the metal, at least the oil does) than corrosion/rust!

I am stunned that someone would pay that much for that car yet good cars with sub 50K miles cant bring 16K!!!!
As long as the frame is good the rest is restorable And having done a nut and bolt restoration on a ZR-1 I know what is involved but I enjoy tearing these things apart it will be interesting to see if the buyer parts it out.
Theres a few possiblilities that I know could have bought it.
Corvette salvage (out of Mississippi)
Theres another down in Alabama that has parted a few ZR-1s on ebay have to dig up the name
and then the place up in ohio cleavland pick apart.
or an individual. I fell this car will be parted out though thats what my crystal ball says so we may see it again!

The price was was over the top, bumper and doors looked to be the most value on the whole car. Very little good salvage left, heck can you imagine i bought that car and parted it out, you'll all be asking me "did that come off that POS red ZR-1"
