This not mine nor am I associated in any way. Spotted this on Craigslist today here in SoCal. Looks like a good deal.
Good luck

Looks like a great deal!
Most likely a 2 bolt main, but including all components?

I did too. Wish I was closer, especially since my last debacle.

I don't think it's a new engine. I'm guessing it's the one someone pulled out to put in a new crate engine.

Hi Jerry... why do think its a used engine?
Thanks Rick

Given its scruffy appearance fore sure this engine has not been stored in the best of conditions. Doubt preservation maintenance has seen much attention either.
I've looked over closely the high res photos the seller emailed and my eyes could not find any clear indications this is take out. I will forward these to any one interested in taking their own look. Just PM your email address.

From what I saw in the photos the seller sent me, which are shown in Phil's #6 post above. Look around the plenum bolt and the injector rail. New crate engines also come with ex manifolds, flywheel, clutch, bellhousing & wrapped in plastic. This engine has none of that and doesn't look like the wrap was dropped down for the photos.

Jerry,
I noticed the same things as you've mention.
One thing is the oil filter, looks to me to still be the original.
And no clear indications the throttle cable clamps have ever been installed on the plenum.
But then again you look closely at the paint on throttle body and it clearly appears to be lifting at the cover plate edge.
Regardless of the good price I think in this case prudence dictates a thorough firsthand inspection to clear up any uncertainties prior to any purchase decisions.

The first photo clearly shows the bell housing installed.
For the sake of comparison here are a couple photos a Peoria, IL Chevy dealer sent me of a 95 motor they were selling a couple of years ago

I agree with you Phil, needs first hand confirmation. The exhaust plugs & intake cover stuff could have been put on the takeout engine (if that's the case) . Even the crate wood looks like it's weathered.

if it is what it says then l would be interested ..... but as you say....for a supposedly unused crate engine it sure looks a bit weathered.....has anyone seen this close up yet

Is it just me or does it look like one of the intake runners (front drivers side) is caved in? :icon_scra

Are you refering to the to the upper right runner in the left pic below?
If so this is a cast in feature of the later 93-95 style plenums to allow clearance for the throttle cable in the area where it connects to the TB.
The right pic is of the ealier 90-92 style plenum.

I just got the high res pictures of it..
It's not the new crate motor, it's the take out. Mostly likely a Chevy dealer went out of business and this was sitting around. The pictures clearly show oil/dirt in the wire loom, fuel rails, under water pipe.......

So its a new definition of a "Crate motor" well I think we all saw that. For all we know its a 200K mile crate motor

Great reference picture. I believe it was dented/ pushed in. Looking at the pic again the push in appears to be almost from the 90 degree bend forward to the center portion of the plenum. That is indeed however the runner we are talking about. Granted some of it appears what was milled, but not all of it.

You hope thats all " 200K " on it. does it turn over, did it break a chain, drop valve, on and on and on......... Who knows....... It's in a crate know that.
