Black Widow Cars

I guess I was under the impression that the 8 black widow cars were pulled off the line and had special motors installed. After seeing the list, and the fact that the model years are spread out, I am apparently wrong. So essentially these are much like the DRM engine you can buy from Rippie?

Heart of Beast indicates that the parts were modified by Mercruiser and then assembled by Rippie. Any more details about how these are special vs a DRM car?

Here is a real good link about the Black Widow motors that I just reread yesterday. The first "BLACK" motors were sent Morrison Motorsports for his race cars.
