Hi to all

i havent physically been able to check this prob yet so lm going on what my son is telling me....

my 92 with engine running and vehicle stationary a vibration is evident when turning the steering wheel left or right....even slightly.....then you let go of steering its stable again.....turn it....increasing vibration....etc etc

son says the whole engine shakes while turning wheel

l asked him to check S.fluid and S.pump pulley but he says fluid level is fine in the rez and he couldnt see any pulley trying to shake loose

its happened after being parked for a few weeks...it was fine when l parked up.....there was a really cold spell in that time but dont think thats anything to do with it

so....my guess is l got an airlock in the lines....somehow?.....so guessing l need to bleed the system and refill......whats the procedure?

but lm open to suggestions for any other reasons for this.......:dontknow:

errrr....sorry to all but seems l posted this prob a while back.....but didnt see answers.

or l can just blame it all on my increasing senility

How cold did it get?

GM steering is known to have cold weather issues that result in this type of vibration.

Might try to drive it and get everything up to normal temps and then see if the vibration is still there.

Thanks for that info....

well it snowed...and Zed got a little snow bound before it was moved (sorry lm one of these terrible people whos car sometimes lives outside as lm out of country often and son hasnt passed driving test yet to drive it on road and move it under cover) ....anyway....it was when it was moved by his mother after the snow thawed some that the prob came up....so could be what you say.....it was fine before it snowed

guess l will have to wait untill l get back, give it a thorough warm up and thrash the steering a bit

The PS system is pretty simple, air will wind up in the reservoir. Purge should not be needed unless the system has been opened or developed a leak. The purge procedure is to put the nose in the air and run the steering lock-to-lock a dozen or twenty times. If I'm not easily able to put the car in the air I'll put a newspaper section under each front wheel and do the cycling. Just to be specific enough the cycling should be done with the engine idling.

For things to go awry as you describe I'd wonder about your belt and/or tensioner as possible culprits.

l will ask my son to try the cycle on a couple of magazines and see it it sorts the prob

re the associated judder

l too was thinking it could be the idle pulley but wil try the cycle and see if that does it.
