HOUSTON CIRCUIT UNVEILED FOR ALMS' LONE STAR GRAND PRIX

Braselton, Ga. - Officials in Houston today announced the track configuration and site of the May 12 Lone Star Grand Prix, the second round of the 2006 American Le Mans Series. The 1.7-mile, 10-turn track will play host to the cars and stars of the American Le Mans Series in a Friday night event held under the lights in the downtown area, with the race televised on CBS Sports.

The two-hour, 45-minute sprint race will see the Audis, Corvettes, Lolas, Porsches and other makes weave their way through a 345-acre facility at Reliant Park that will include the temporary street circuit. Series drivers will pass by such landmarks as Reliant Stadium, Houston's famed Astrodome and Reliant Arena. The circuit will include fast straightaways and hairpin turns that will optimize the experience for the fans and drivers alike.

The setting will create an atmosphere that models the ALMS' "For the Fans" concept, creating spacious, state-of-the-art facilities providing exceptional parking, hospitality and fan enjoyment.

The Lone Star Grand Prix is part of the Grand Prix of Houston weekend, which sees the ALMS team with the city and the Champ Car World Series to bring road-racing back to Houston after a lengthy absence. In addition to the marquee racing events each evening, organizers are planning a festival atmosphere that will include numerous attractions such as live music, exhibits and sporting events.

"We are taking the best elements of the past and adding more race programming and other fan-friendly activities to our event," said Chuck Kosich, General Manager of the Grand Prix of Houston. "We are confident that this will be one of the most exciting weekends in motorsports next year."

The telecast will mark the first of five consecutive ALMS appearances on CBS Sports, representing the best network television package in the eight-year history of the series.

I can't believe they brought the Champ Car race back to Houston after they called it a failure back in 99. Should be a exciting weekend!
