All I know right now is he paid only $15K US for it and it does have a 383 with recent rebuild and MOTEC engine management. He had an 8 hour drive to take it home.

Sweet deal! Nice car with great mods and probably some cool race history to boot!
Talk of Okinawa brings back some fond memories from 1966-67. I was stationed at Torii Station in Sobe. Back then I had a 65 MGB. It was great for the narrow winding roads around the island. Before I came back I almost bought a 67 Healy 3000 to ship back, but thought better to buy when I returned to the states. I bought a 68 Camaro when I returned. Then I got married and shipped to Viet Nam. When I returned from there I had to give up the car due to I couldn't afford the payments with school and just getting married! Now I am retired and happy with my Z and Harley!
Sorry for the long bio. I just got nostalgic!!

I don't see the high brake light either, but it could be the angle of the photo? I had to look again after your post Tyler, and if you look at the doors I believe you can see the wider skin? I use the area just under the window felt and the area just above the door handle as a "tell-tale". On our cars that part of the skin sticks out enough to almost make for a flat area before the door skin curves away top to bottom. On the reg C4's the door skin starts it's curve right at the felt? That and the flat of the body on the top of the rear panel (fender) has a continuation to over our door hdls vs the regular C4 it stops at the door seam. No?

Like I said, I don't know the details and imagine it is a 385 and not a 383; he tried his best in english text message to explain to me. He primarily wants the motor since to rebuild his LT5 was going to cost much more than the entire car. If it is not a Z body/chassis, I would imagine it at least has an LT5 as he indicated. I'm not questioning or doubting anything until more details and pics are provided.

I agree, body looks wide just below the halo. Also, look at the windshield. It has the purple hue to it, that car probably is a ZR-1.

Sorry for the suspense. I don't want to steal his thunder if he wants to present it as he does all his carbon fiber stuff, etc. He shared the pics and videos with me and it is an LT5 and sounds pretty wicked; the MOTEC system is off the chain as they say. It has some unique coolant plumbing too. From the pics it is a ZR-1.
I'll share this since he already put it on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/user/94vetteconv#p/a/u/0/vuHE8HiZ0hQ
The body is carbon fiber hence the different look to some. I think Jeff is gonna love it.
I have already said too much and will see he does not mind me posting all the rest.

Okay, so he decided he is going to keep the LT5, transmission, differential, clutch, motec computer and suspension. So some of the parts his friends bought was roof, rear acrylic resin hatch and some other parts. He said the remainder of the car will be sold very cheap that includes racing fuel tank, fuel pump, roll cage, carbon doors (quarter panels are original)
front bumpers, rear bumpers, racing Kevlar seats. I guess it might be difficult for any of us to buy the chassis or otherwise with the high shipping cost and not a rolling chassis. Sorry Jeff, initially he wanted just the motor after pricing a rebuild for his street Z.
These brothers in Japan are MAD and therefore their club name is MADVETTE as is the club president that frequents the Registry site. Their definition of MAD is basically crazy and the love and need for speed. He is trying to make it to the 2010 Gathering and is very serious as he even got married at a Corvette Funfest hosted by Mid America Motorworks. This is all the details I have for now.

Interested in wheels if available..

01-09-2010, 11:38 PM
If you can get it rolling and in to a container it can be shipped back to the states
customs shouldnt be a issue since the car was originally built in the USA
I had a clown tell me it would be hard to get my corvette back into the states what a joke I laughed in his face on that one.
but my shipping was free
And used cars go for pretty cheap in japan something about scared about old cars?? I don't know but it a fact.
HAWAIIZR-1
01-09-2010, 11:52 PM
Yeah, I was surprised how fast he got it apart too and no specs on the motor yet. Not sure about the wheels, but they appear to be the Rays like most of the Zs in Japan. No chop shop and this is in his garage. We'll see what is left and might not be worth it to try to ship, but I am curious to know what year and VIN it was originally. I would like to buy the windshield.

After looking at how this is done, the parts are useless unless used on a race car.
Sad to say this awesome car is being ruined.

Jeff,
I hear ya and expressed to him that your interest was in a rolling chassis. As you stated it may even have a little history even if not in the US. I'll keep you posted of what is left even though it may not be of use to any of us.

Have to agree with Jeff, parts should stay together, not like the doors are going to fit our cars...anybody for a second think a door panel will hang off the inside of what we're looking at? Don't think so...

I'm waiting to hear the current status as Jeff and I spoke last night about this very subject. Johnny's friends might be in Okinawa and I heard airline from Japan (mainland) to Okinawa cost more that Japan to Hawaii. Yeah, with some connection there are military ships and aircraft going back and forth on a regular basis. Oh well, everyone has their reasons............

Where is this guys shop I didn't catch that?
but okinawa to main land flight should be a domestic flight, I know that they can get it to there.
But hell Im a Military dependant if anyone really really wants it I could take space a flights all the way to japan and then work on getting the car to the shipping container but thats about it since im unemployed at the moment waiting to go to school:mrgreen:

Thanks Johnny. He does not have a shop and these pics are from home garage in Himeji area. I have not heard anything for a few days and I'm sure he's busy with work. Here is the latest and I am waiting more details and pictures.
The chassis is $2000, but not sure what all it consist of yet.
The CF doors are $1200 for the pair.
I imagine the shipping cost might be too much for anyone in the US to consider but he is checking what might be best. I have to ask him if there is a title with this chassis even though it might not matter for a race car.
The motor I found was built by a company that builds F1 motors in Japan and I'm curious myself to know more about this build. He is contacting the company to see if he can find out about the build.
Sorry, this is all I know for now.

Yes...Very sad. Disturbing to see, actually. Looks like some nice work done by someone, IE:Time/Money, unfortunatly it's specific to 'That' car & most likely that car alone. The guy who owns the car now can do what he wants, of coarse, but your not going to convince me he's thinking very clearly.

I was hoping one of the member could bring that car back to the states and build it back to spec and enjoy. The last two pictures breaks my heart. Still it was good to see a Z in that kind of race trim before the disassemble.
