Well, mine started in summer, went through fall and will go through winter into spring (yeah, we don't have those seasons here in Hawaii but you know what I mean). Not sure if I count, but here goes:
LT5 rebuild
Port/polished heads, plenum, IHs, TB, etc.
4:10 gears, rebuild posi, ARP studs, overhaul kit
New ujoints, PC halfshafts/driveshaft
Install C4 Beam plate
All polyurethane bushings being installed
New FX3 shocks
Powdercoat centers of Classic CCWs black
Add GTO body kit
Euro tail lights/side markers
C5 mirrors
Battery relocation to pass rear compartment
Insulate tunnel for sound and heat
detailed chassis and frame with POR-15 black and stirling silver, polish aluminum parts of suspension
PC drive/half shafts
Fidanza 3.2 kevlar clutch and aluminum flywheel
shift light install
I know there is more and can't think of the others.

My wish list is to just get my ported I/H's and Plenum installed on my motor. If I get favorable weather over a weekend I can get that done in my parking space! I know working in the street is a NYC thing! :sign10:
If I can find a garage space to rent that will allow me to do work on the car, then I will get my headers set up for AIR and have the EGR tube removed, and then get them coated and install them on my car. That would be the short list! ;).....they hate me at my present rented space!
I just don't trust other people working on the motor in my neck o the woods. The rest of the car being a C4 I have a local dealer that I use if it's something I can't/will not do in my parking space. Although, I could just change the oil & filter and be ready to leave for BG in an hour, or give me a few hours to swap out the plugs, f/f, a/f, pcv's, gear & trans lube and I'll leave later. I don't pack much and my "go tool bag" is packed already!

This winter's project: Keep up with the "Jonezes" (make that the FBI :dancing)
Get the LT5 back together,
install new carpet and swap seats to std 95s
Get my car tuned to the new mods!
Will consider installing a 411 gear
That will be it for a while. I'd like to actually drive and race it a bit next summer!!!
Long live the Beast and the FBI!

Well this morning at 0945 it's 70 deg F and 60% humidity here in Abu Dhabi. Actually pretty nice... I'm flying 3-4 times per week in an awesome jet with OK to Good students. So all is well.
The only bad part is I don't have my Vette here and I wouldn't want to bring it with the way they drive here. I fear for my life every time I get on the road and I'm usually fearless... It's the guy you don't see who's going to get you...

Not yet Ron I just received them 2 days ago and Household6 has other retail therapy requirements first. I am hopeful for Sunday lol
I am not doing the sidemarkers. I saw a post up on CF and I did not like the look. They projected onto the ground and I think will ruin the look
I have the LED Tail light Lens (Not just the blubs the entire LED lens). I have been running those for almost three years now and they are still great. They have about 48 LEDS per lens so they are impressivly bright
I have LED Backup lights and LED License plate lights. The CMHSL will be the final piece. I will post up the entire backend when its all done.
Heres an old pic of the back up lights and the LED tailights

Hans,
I'm flying the newest F16, the Block 60. It's kind of like having the F22&35 avionics rolled into one aircraft. Real high tech.... The motor is a blast, it really puts you back in the seat on a afterburner takeoff. ;) I love flying it...

Bob,
So around $10k when you add the crank just for the short block.
So after you received the short you had to add long block assembly, head and plenum port work, maybe CAMs, plus engine removal and install from the car, plus tune, plus headers and some other odds and ends. Looks like another $8-10k to Finnish. Assuming you would start with a stock motor. Am I close?? That would be about $10k less than most LT5 guys would build you a 415 for a year or two ago. I think your got a great deal and it helps to have had a 402 to start with.
Who did your short block and did you use the closed deck liners?
The nice thing about the tubo system is you just drop your old exhaust and replace with the turbo system. It's a little more complex than that, you do have to add the turbo oil system and the wire harness but not much...
Cheers,
RH

Well it was a good week. Last week I removed the stereo and shipped it to Dr Don. Was informed the amps were out of a Caddy. So they needed to be replaced, decide to use the amps out a a convertible that will give a little more power. The head unit couldnt be just repaired to stock so it was upgrade to play all types of CDs. With luck it will go back in this weekend. Havent a clue how Im going to get the reciever back in, dont know how I got it out. lol
Was able to replace the injectors, coils and two wheel bearings this weekend. While under the car noticed oil leaking out of the rear shocks, so they'll get sent out next.
Then its onto installing a five speed in the 1979............

Hi Ron Yes It has the closed deck liners. I was the first, Tony @AES & I figured out how to do them He seams to thinkyou can go to a 4.155 bore but You would need head gaskets. You could get copper But I wouldn't run them on the street, Besides there is something about a 427 CORVETTE It kind of has a nice ring to it. I can't wait for BG I think Todd will have his closed deck 427 6 inch rod LT5 there Also

What rod length did you go with in your 427 and where they Olivers?
Bob G
01-08-2010, 11:30 AM
The Bore is 4.125 & the stroke is 4.00 the Rod length is 5.85 the rods are the ones that Rippie used when he bilt the 402. I just can't remember what brand they are, Unless you open the chamber up in the heads you can't use a 6 inch rod unless you wan't 13 to 1 compression.
Ron isn't that car of yours a 368 with low compression? Or was I thinking

Damn impressive list. Yep the ZF.DOC hooked me up on the new short throw as well and Jerry of course with gaskets. GC

Thanks, GC!!!
She's got 120,000 on her and needed some sprucing up. FWIW, the cylinder liners and bearings are pristine. The LT5 is definitely an impressive engine.
The primary timing chain has stretched enough that I can't get the slack out with the tensioner. Guess I'll have to get a new one of those.
I almost forgot, ZFDoc also hooked me up with a set of beam plates. Quality pieces!!!

Me too! Its going to be fun getting her back on the road. As to the mileage a lot of folks would say she hasnt even hit her full stride yet!!!

Holy crap, Dynomite, that's some list. Seems it would have been easier to list what isn't going to get done this winter.
I enjoy reading your posts. If your work is as thorough as your posts, your ZR-1 will be a piece of art!

I'm actually de-modding my '91 to some degree, in order to sell it. The mods are bringing pennies on the dollar, as expected, so I'd rather take them off and keep them for my next ZR-1. C5 brakes, Corsa, stereo all coming out.
Would like to take off the a-molds and swap on some sawblades, if anyone has a set...?

I am almost having more fun modifying than driving and I keep updating that list :D
One thing led to another as you prolly know how that goes and the LT5 engine is challenging and a lot of fun to take apart and put back together
Especially when you can count on forum members to help you out of any and all situations
Thank you...I do tend to use "bold" and "red" more than others :sign10:

Believe me, I know the drill. My ZR-1 has been an 8 year work in process. It is finally at a point where all I feel the need to do now is drive it; and driving it is a blast. I still get the urge to go back and "raise the bar" but I'm working hard to suppress it.
Is it your plan to have it ready by spring? Either way, keep the posts coming!
Thanks, GC!!!

If you need a new primary chain let me know $60.

What is number 18. Cryoed 4.10 rear?
Did you install the 410s yourself?

Here's the explanation from Wikipedia:
"A cryogenic treatment is the process of reducing the temperature of components over an extended period of time to extreme cold levels, usually slightly below −190 °C (−310.0 °F), which is why it is called a cryogenic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryogenic) process. Liquid nitrogen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid_nitrogen) (LN2) is a common fluid for the process being relatively inexpensive and making up more than 70% of our atmosphere.
As the LN2 boils off from liquid to gas at around −195 °C (−319.0 °F), the components in its proximity are also cooled. The process is controlled by microprocessors so that thermal shock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_shock) is not generated at the same time resulting in damage to components. Before these microprocessors were created, people would dip parts in liquid nitrogen and virtually turn them to brittle instantaneously.
As the material cools its molecular structure is drawn together through contraction and stress and dislocation brought about by production methods is removed or reduced. Both Einstein (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Einstein) and Bose of Germany realized why cryogenic treatment was able to remove residual stresses. Cryogenic treatment removes heat from an object which then allows the object to enter its most relaxed state or a condition with the least amount of kinetic energy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinetic_energy). After heat treatment, steels still have a certain percentage of retained austenite which can be transformed into martensite (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martensite) via cryogenic treatment. Other effects are the production of martensite (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martensite) and the precipitation of Eta type carbides. All metals including copper and aluminum, not just steel benefit from the residual stress relief that cryogenic treatment promotes.
The process has a wide range of applications from industrial tooling to improvement of musical signal transmission. Some of the benefits of cryogenic treatment include longer part life, less failure due to cracking, improved thermal properties, better electrical properties including less electrical resistance, reduced coefficient of friction, less creep and walk, improved flatness, and easier machining.
It has been found and proved that cryogenic treatment improves wear resistance of many alloy steels to a great extent."
Bottom line is that it makes the part less resistant to failure if done properly.
I did not do it myself. I bought a complete cryoed rear suspension.

Well let's see....
1. Find a job to pay for what I want to do.
2. a new set of tires, the michelins that came with my dymags are new but over 10yrs old, not sure I trust them.
3. find a job
4. lower the car, I have the lowering parts, want to do the suspension bushings at the same time.
5. find a job
6. install a chain tensioner upgrade kit. The chain rattle at start up bugs me.
7. find a job
8. GS brake calipers for the front, with the new wheels, you can see the ugly brakes.
9. did I mention find a job?
10. ohh yah... find a job!

I'm still on the "find a job" part, although things are starting to look up. It's rough out there, good luck!

Hans,
NV is just across the boarder and we have our first Male Prostitute in a brothel. It may be a booming business if you're looking for employment. ;)

I was considering the male prostitution thing in a pinch, but the wife veto'd it.
I'm in Orange County Ron, about 100 mile drive to Palmdale.
