I have SW headers, no cats, x-pipe,[unknown brand, short about 10" long total, with sharp bends into the x,], Flowmaster exhaust pipe, leading to Flowmaster Force 11 mufflers.
I liked the sound of the Flowmaster system with headers, it just was'nt loud enough, so I took out the resonator and put in the x-pipe. Now the sound at idle and cruise is fine, but when you get on the car it sounds terrible, [very loud and raspy, like a dumptruck with no muffler].
Does anyone know if I use a differant style x-pipe, like a B+B possibly[longer with much more graduale bends], if the sound would improve? I like the look and sound of the B+B system the best, just don't want to spend the money if I can make most of what I already have work. Anyone know of an alternative to B+B X-pipe that sounds good? Thanks Jim

Who makes the X pipe you have now? I don't think you can buy the B&B X pipe without buying the system. SW makes an X pipe. That is what I am running on my car.

This is the 2.5" SS I am using with my Borla exhaust, sounds good IMHO.

How does that differ from the Borla Resonator?

Are you running headers and cat and/or no cats with X Pipe?

Reason I ask is I'm running the borla now with the big resonator.

Sound difference at:

1) Idle
2) med acceleration
3) Full acceleration

Any Resonance?

i have a xpipe 3in that goes to a 21/2 in on the outside to borla mufflers on my newest addition .a red 90 . there is just a very slight hint of resonance @1800 rpms it goes away completly by 2000 rpms . car also has stainless works headers and no cats . at a cruize its not much louder than the full borla setup maybe 3db . at full throttle its louder but not too loud. maybe 7db louder . i will see if ican get a friend to man my camera for a flyby so you can hear for yourself.hope this helps

I'm using the SW X pipe, which I got as part of the bulk purchase header deal last year.

I've got no resonator at all; 3" throughout to the muffers where it pinches down to 2-1/2" into the Magnaflow twin tube muffs. It sounds great at idle, but it gets pretty obnoxious (to me) with more throttle.

Along side of the pipes are a couple 18" "Power Stick" 3" ID chambered mufflers to go in place of the resonator. They look like a cheese grater from the inlet side. But, I'm guessing they can be flipped end over end. So, I'll mount them with clamps initially so I can experiment (after I dyno it first to see what difference it makes, "before and after").

Another consideration is Pete and Bob G's C6 style flapper. Pete and Bob have essentially the same setup as mine, only (Pete) installed a vacuum actuated flapper on one of the two outlets of each of his B&B mufflers. Apparently, it works very well - having your cake and eating it too (according to Pete n Bob). (Ask them or perhaps you can search for "flapper" and see what was written.)

That would be great, just wondering if it would make sense for me to switch over to the X pipe.

I really like my 80's Borla style system. It has headers and sounds good at idle and wide open throttle with zero resonance.

The tips are not the best but I've even seen tips posted here that look identical to the B&B's. I haven't gotten them yet because I'd probably want to drop the exhaust before busting out welding equipment near the rear bumper paint. I think the tips were not cheap about $200. The X pipe is another $100 with shipping etc. Is there another option besides the borla mufflers?

Reason I'm asking is its not about dropping a bunch of $. It's about getting the most effective system where I also like the sound. For example B&B is alittle too loud for my liking. Corsa is alittle too buzzy for me etc. Flowmaster is too loud.

Stainless works system was supposed the be the cats meow when it came out but I have not heard alot of people switching over to it.

i like you have been searching for the perfect system . i have become so nuts about this i have the following ,1flowmaster cat back . a borla on my red 90 ,a corsa on the white 92, a desert development , 2 stk exhausts, and the one i like the best so far, a custom dr gas system that they put on at their factory .its a 21/2 in with their x pipe and spin tech mufflers . changing from the flowmaster on the blk 90 to their exhaust at the strip increased my mph from 117 to 119.85. their is a little resonance in it @2000rpms but other than that its not too loud . i dont have cats on any of them but am going to try to put cats on the dr gas set up and see if it takes that away .i have some vids of the white and bnlk car at the strip on utube if you wanted to hear the different sounds .just type in joeshmoe12301230 and it will bring up a full list of my vids .hope this helps .

SW headers no cats with x-pipe.
1. The same
2. louder/deeper
3. louder/ louder

Slight resonance when engine lugs down, down shift takes care of it. Not bad, and hardly noticeable.

I had the x-pipe extended to exactly match the resonator by tig welding SS pipes to it, completely bolt on.

I had the same thing (not stainless) made up by custom exhaust in TX for about $125.

I replaced my Borla resonator with it.
Stock manifolds to the X pipe, straight out no mufflers.
Sounds great, NO resonance.
