ON MY 90 I BYPASS'S THE SWITCH BECAUSE I ELIMINATED THE SECONDARIES AND THE PUMP. DIDN'T WANT ANY ACCIDENTAL KEY PROBLEMS. SO I BYPASS THE SWITCH BY STRIPING THE BLUE AND WHITE WIRE FROM THE ECM AND SOLDERING A WIRE TOO IT AND PUTTING IT TOO GROUND.BYPASSING THE SWITCH!!! THIS WOULD WORK TOO FOR A BAD SWITCH NOW IT ALWAYS ON NO MATTER WHAT POSITION THE KEY IS IN!!!

I think that's stupid. It defeats the whole purpose of owning this car. This is what made this car so unique and you ruin the experience by doing that.

I had my key bypassed at the PROM level. The key is always on. ;)

My Haibeck chip changes the mode default to on
That means I can go to mode off yet to give some guys half a chance
The "next guy" is usually smarter than me :sign10: but not necessarily faster :D

I'm not calling anybody stupid, I just don't see the point in bypassing one of the greatest features in a car ever made.
I wish Chevy continued this tradition with the new ZR1 and the third brake light on the roof. Maybe there's a mod for that..?

When I had the chip made to my specs one of the main features I wanted was key on at start up,why do you think that is?I didnt want to hit the key everytime I started the car.Im not lame enough to let some hack touch my car let alone let them drive it so Im not worried about the valet feature..I think that with the owners of the 91-95 cars that have a custom chip most if not all have this feature. And the light on the roof,I hated this the first time I saw it back in 86.The only reason I dont remove it Ive found that cars dont get as close at stop lights with the 3rd brake light. When I first got the car the light didnt work and noticed cars would get pretty close at stop lights.I still hate the 3rd brake light but Im getting used to it

You saw he got rid of the secondaries, right? So the key wouldn't have worked anyway.
To the OP, since your switch no longer does anything, you might consider removing it and getting a stock panel. The '90 panel with the key is sorta rare and valuable. You could either set it aside for safe keeping, or make some more mod money.

My chip mod did not have the Key always on option -- wish it did though.
First two things I always do is Key ON and and Traction Control Off.
I have become used to the ritual.
I forget now the reason I turn the TC off -- I know a lot leave it on esp. for the track but there was a good reason for turning the TC off for certain things -- maybe some of you could comment about the + and - on doing this and when any why you prefer such to refresh my memory on it.

The 1990 Engine Power Key is a two position key-switch that can stay in the Full Power position all the time. In a OEM configuration, with the key left in the Full Power position, the engine secondaries are available every time the car is started with no further action by the driver. SO, a prom mod to keep the secondaries on is not necessary.

on the traction control .on my 92 i leave it on unless i am at the dragstrip .at the strip the car runs .3 slower with the traction control on . from what i undrestand it is kinda of a first gen system that doesnt allow for any wheel spin at all . the newrsystems are much more advanced and can actually help ets at the strip .

on my red 90 previous owner installed a rocker switch for the power key. my blk car the key switch is very sensitive and if i turn it all the way on it goes off . guess its time to install the new key switch in her

I keep mine on full power all of the time. I don't see the point in turning it off. I'll never let a valet park my car anyway. #1 nobody seems to be able to figure out how to get the parking brake off. #2 nobody can seem to figure out how to get it in reverse. So I'd just rather avoid the aggravation and just do it myself.

mark H figured out a way to bypass the vacuum pump and the map sensor for the ecm that control the fuel for the secondary. for me i wanted to make sure it could not go lean i don't have secondary or vacuum pump so if my key went off and went lean well you know what happen!!

Hey where about Chicago are you.
We have a great group of ZR-1 owners and we do pizza once a month.
No worries old members always pick on the new guy.

Ahhh yes that was it better holeshot -- I kinda figured it was something like this.
So perhaps I will change my thinking and leave it on now unless I am going to do a hole shot where I change to COMP AND TRACTION OFF for those.
Jon1 do you use COMP for the Drags as well or do you have a modded setup?
