View Full Version : Replacing Injectors Soon

So, I ordered a new set of injectors from FIC...not the rebuilt Bosch set but a brand new set of delcos I think that are not a wet coil design. These are supposed to be flow matched and brand new and ethanol safe.

The reason I am going to do this is because the car has slight mis or stumble at idle and new spark plugs didn't fix it. I also know the ethanol in today's fuel will eventually kill them all. I went with the NGK Iridium plugs.

My questions are as follows:

Do I need new o-rings or something to install with the new injectors?

What do I need in order to test the secondary vacuum system while the plenum is off?

Should I replace the coils? I have already had one replaced at Corey's shop when I had it over for the gathering in New Braunsfels in 2008; because it died and left me stranded.

I think Kurt white sells all the under the plenum stuff.

I just want to get it all running right and then take it back to Corey for a dyno tune.


Also,

I a FNG when it comes to the plenum pull, so I will be soliciting some help from a crazy local with a red 90 here in town.

Hand vacuum pump w/ gauge is what I used. Have 2 3 way vacuum check valves on hand before pulling the plenum.

Yes. But check around. Depending on what you need some have them for less.

On a 1994, the injectors should be o-ringed already. Only the 1990-92 cars have a special concern, and at that only on the primary injectors where they meet the injector housing.

I second the coil replacement. If one went out already, I'd replace the others as a precaution. It's not a bad time to replace the plug wires either.

Hey,pal, be at Rosa's Wednesday. I'll help you change out those injectors if you can get that black POS over to my house. Seriously, been there, done that and it's really not a big job. If it's half-way nice Wednesday I'll rive my red ZR-1 to Rosa's

For 90~92 models, I recommend replacement of the lower o-rings on the primary injectors. These o-rings do not come with injectors. O-rings are located inside the injector bore of the injector housing (8 required). Those o-rings plus a set of plenum gaskets are all you need for the injector replacement.

I will be replaceing my injectors too. What is the fuel rate on "stock" LT-5 injectors? Summit has some Accel injectors that do 21, 24, and up, pounds per hour. FIC says that their rebuilt units are fine, and they are "flow mattched" (tested).
Anyone know the PN for a performance coil replacement? I live out in Colorado where the air is thin. I will be installing a Hailbeck chip, so I'm trying to formulate just what I will need out of an injector.

Yes. But check around. Depending on what you need some have them for less.

I agree with you except the coil pack. They should be good and I have heard of many people that have replaced them with zero results. Worth pulling the plenum again.

Something to ponder; RC's are expensive and probably do not atomize as well as the factory fan type spray pattern, BUT, they are Stainless Steel! Something to consider for extended long periods of time in storage. :icon_scra
