My Z06 wheels and tires. Should be here this week. I'll be posting pics of them along with spacers and studs used for mounting. On my list is a set of front Z06 calipers and getting my new business started.

Seems like forever since she (the motor) came out of the Z!! I'm going thru some serious ZR-1 withdrawals or as Ken HD puts it, "vicarious ZR-1ing"!!

Well, I did mention to Santa that some new carpet might fit in my stocking...;)

Given my current employment status it will have to be modest, especially after buying the Dymags. But now that the Dymags are on I see two further projects. Lowering the car slightly, I already have what I need to do that other than some new suspension bushings. But, I can now see the ugly J55 front calipers, which means I either have to go to GS calipers or a C5 setup. All in good time I suppose, that what makes this hobby fun.

How do you plan to change out the studs? Seems to me you have to remove the hub, press out the old ones, press in the new ones, and reinstall. Kind of a pain...?

New Z06 calipers available on eBay for $500.

The ZR1 calipers are better than the Z06.

But the ones in the auction at 1,500 USD are not bad considering you are getting the pads. But the cost of the rotors is going to put your nuts in a vice.

I agree... Unsure if this is true, but they were saying it would cost $5k plus for a "brake" job on a new ZR1. (many said it would be well OVER 5k) :blahblah:

I figured they were Jeff and also figured the carbon fiber rotors are killer $. Besides does a 15" rotor with calipers fit under an 18" wheel? I imagine the adapter would need to be different also.
Am I correct in assuming the Z06 calipers would use your C5 adapters?

You could use my adapter, but it creates such a f'd up offset when going to the larger 4-6 piston calipers you need a new bracket.

To give you an idea, ZR-1 pads are around 100 bucks per axle, the Carbon pads on the new ZR1 are 600 per caliper. That is dealer cost. I priced the rotors out and can't remember what they were, but 1,500 sticks out in my mind. The calipers from GM are cheap. Maybe 250-300 each for Brembo 6 piston with Corvette script on them.

I already spent on mine and it was the liners/pistons/rods/rings from a new 95 crate motor that I bought from a fellow member; I can't afford anything else.

I still plan on having a Hawaii ZR-1 Christmas though:

Hans,
Yes the studs, at stock lengths and I believe the next length up, can be done with the hubs on the car. If you look behind the hub, as you rotate it, you will see an area on the face of the knuckle that has enough room for the stud to be driven out and the new one to be started in the hole. If I remember right, the space is on the forward part of the knuckle. or on your left as you face the hub.

On the install, you need to grind down part of the head of the stud....not the part that actually creates the interference fit. Just the top portion of the head...common practice with doing this.

Depending on the length the longer stud may slip into the hub without needing any work.I ground down a spot before I replaced the stock studs.G.M. makes longer studs, the part# is 22551491.http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a136/FLYTYM/IMG_0015.jpg

Those are the studs I have. I'll be grinding down the head a bit. The stock studs came out with little effort.

Did you notice that the companion car to the blue 95 is advertised as a "427ci with 638HP" 2010 model. Did the guy do any research at all - they're 6.2 liters not 7 liters. Jeez.

I'm into simple pleasures. Just a '95 ZR-1 key ring. Anyone has one for sale? Does not have to be perfect.
